Persian Gulf / PGCC -- Gulf / GCC
Not to nitpick here, but humor me for a second.
“Persia” is a western (Ancient Greek produced word). In old farsi, our country was called Pârsâ. So you are fighting to call a body of water by it’s wrong [Western derived] name from….wait for it…..modern day Western attempts to remove us by historical revisionism. It’s an oxymoron. Do you not see the irony in that?
Persian Gulf itself is a dated (slightly supremist) racial term. I don’t see anyone calling Iraq - “Babylon or Mesopotamia” or Mexico - Aztec or similar examples by their ancient names.
The accurate name should be Iranic (
from genealogy) Gulf or Iranian Gulf for simplicity. There is no old Iranic language used today nor is the western derived word for our country even correct. No pure blood “Persians” just like there is no pure blood Israelites existing today or Babylon or Akkadians, Amorites, Canaanites, Phoenicians, and Arameans, etc. The proper term in 21st century is
Iranic signifying the DNA of the consortium of Iranic tribes that established and existed in the region over thousands of years
.
So insisting on the term
Persian Gulf is propagating this issue. Only western ex pats refer to themselves as “Persian”. I get wanting to keep the historical context of the body water named correctly, but it is at the same time an oxymoron since the word itself is a western derived word and incorrectly so by a few ancient Greek historians. These same individuals may have never even met with a “Persian” in their lifetime let alone spent significant time learning their culture and language. “Persian” Empire was an administrative empire of conquered territories and did not force its language or customs on to the people especially the outer fringe territories of the empire.
I don’t know like I said just my shower thoughts, just amusing we are fighting to keep a western produced word on a map to describe our own culture.
