The train-the-trainer agreements on the table would pave the way for the development of these unmanned aircraft systems within the country, enabling Saudi Arabia to become more self-sufficient in its defense sector.

The ongoing negotiations indicate the commitment of both parties to expand their cooperation in defense technologies. However, details regarding the progress of the talks or time frames for potential agreements have not yet been revealed.

Saudi Arabia announced an increase in its military spending in the next fiscal year by 8.7% over the current year, to reach 269 billion riyals, which represents 21.5% of total public spending.

The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute revealed that global military spending rose in 2022 by 2.6%, reaching an all-time high of $2.11 trillion. Saudi Arabia was among the most prominent spenders, as it increased its military spending by 16%, reaching approximately $75 billion.

Saudi Arabia buys the full Grom-2 missile project​

Saudi Arabia on July 21, 2017 purchased a DVD containing The Grom-2 missile project..

The DVD contains the following files:

- R & D files
- Technical documents
- Draft Project
- Methods of choosing optimal design and technical solutions
- As well as a final report on the results of the development tests
- UAV aircraft manufacturing materials

There are many reports that say KSA was working on its indigenous missile programs.. much before this one..The main characteristic of the GROM-2 project is its versatility and multi-use potential; on top of a short range BM _Equivalent of the Russian Iskander technology-wise_ of 500 km (that can be extended to 1300 km), and a cruise missile of 1250 km.. there are possibilities for shore-defense missiles, air-defense missiles and MLRS variants.. it is a real Swiss-knife missile project.. There was also some talk about space launch vehicles..

Saudi Arabia to begin receiving Thunder-2 ballistic missile system in 2022​

Saudi Arabia is in the middle of receiving first components of the Thunder-2 ballistic missile, which has been jointly developed by King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) and Ukrainian Yuzhnoye Design Office, to conduct first firing test in September or October 2019, a Saudi military source told Defence Blog on 3 January.



“The first batch of engines, spare parts and different conventional warheads were delivered to Saudi Arabia for the first phase of the test program, ” said the source, adding that the Saudi Arabian Armed Forces is expected to have the first Thunder-2 ballistic missile system ready for use by 2022.
