February 26, 2025

The South Korean Hyundai Rotem Company has concluded a $ 1.4 billion contract with the National Railways Office in Morocco to supply high-speed double-decker electric trains, according to Railway Supply site, which specializes in railway transport news.

Enhancing the rail network in Morocco

The speed of these advanced trains will reach 160 km per hour (max 260km/h), which will contribute to improving public transport throughout the country. The new trains will link Casablanca with major areas, which supports the Moroccan infrastructure in preparation for hosting the 2030 World Cup.

Part of the process of manufacturing the trains will be localized in Morocco, which enhances the growth of the railway industry in the country. Hyundai Rotem will also cooperate with Moroccan engineers and technicians to develop manufacturing capabilities.

In addition, Hyundai Rotem and the South Korean company Korail will ign Separate agreements for maintenance and repair agreements, ensuring the efficiency and sustainability of the new system in the long term.

About 90% of the components of the trains will be provided from small and medium Korean companies, which enhances the growth of the Korean railway industry.

Hyundai Rotem expanded in the African market

This contract represents the first entry of Hyundai Rotem to the Moroccan market, which enhances its presence in the global railway sector. The company attributed the success of the deal to the close cooperation between the public and private sectors.

The South Korean Minister of Transport visited Morocco last year to showcase Korean technology in the field of railways, as technology and training efforts were strong support from Moroccan officials.

This deal comes within a series of successful projects for Hyundai Rotem in Tunisia, Tanzania and Egypt, which reflects the company's experience in the region. On February 26, the National Railways Office (ONCF) announced the selection of French manufacturers Alstom, Spanish CAF and South Korean Hyundai Rotem for future Moroccan trains. While CAF and Hyundai Rotem will supply the intercity trains and the RER respectively, Alstom will be responsible for the production of 18 trains for the LGV. As such, the French government has granted funding amounting to 781 million euros (M €) for Morocco.

This funding follows the declaration on financial cooperation in the railway sector signed on October 28, 2024, during President Emmanuel Macron's visit to Rabat. For the Kingdom, Alstom will build the Avelia Horizon model, a double-decker train with a capacity of up to 640 passengers and a speed of 320 km/h. The trains will be produced in Alstom's factories in France, and will then be transported and tested in Morocco.

The Alstom factory in Fez will be responsible for producing the electrical cabinets and cable harnesses. The French Ambassador to Morocco, Christophe Lecourtier, declared that "this exceptional amount of funding is a testament to the formidable Franco-Moroccan partnership in the railway sector, which has already led to the immense success of the high-speed line between Tangier and Kenitra, which transported nearly 5 million passengers in 2024".

He also stressed that this project was a "real accelerator for the Kingdom's economic development, which is also in line with the 2030 Football World Cup".

This announcement by the French government comes after similar announcements by the Spanish government, which will release a credit of 7.8 billion dirhams (MMDH) for Morocco as part of its order for inter-city trains, and South Korea, which plans to finance the Moroccan order, to the tune of 29 MMDH.

Discovery of a huge Mineral treasure in Ouarzazate in Morocco .. Thousands of tons of chrome and cobalt with a value of more than $ 60 billion

Canadian Catalyst Mines Inc, which specializes in exploring and developing critical energy minerals, announced this week

On achieving amazing exploration results in its "Emasine" project in Sirwa, the region of Ouarzazate, in southern Morocco, as part of its spring campaign of 2025.

According to an official statement published by the company via Ein Presswire, and was briefed on by the newspaper “Al -Amaq”, the results of the surface drilling operations confirmed

Record very high concentrations of chrome metal

In addition to strong indicators of the Kobalt and Nickel's minerals, the company considered a pivotal station in developing this promising project.

The company explained that the chrome concentrations reached their peak at 270,350 parts per million

At an average rate of 10,880 parts per million across the various exploratory trenches

Al -Nickel also recorded an average of approximately 1,481 parts per million, while the average cobalt reached 102 parts per million.

In an official statement, Tyler Borby, CEO of the company, described these results as "exceptional by all standards"

Stressing that "the size and quality of the chromite promises

They put the project on a global competitive location, especially with the increasing demand for biomedics for clean energy industries, manufacturing and defense.

The project, which is located about 40 km from the famous Boa Ezar mine, is based on a rocky matrix.

It is a geological context appropriate for large -scale mining projects. Field work has revealed high -quality chromete lenses

Geological structures suggest the extension of minerals in the depth.

The company estimates that the Amasin project includes about 609 million tons of rocks that carry chromite, cobalt and nickel, at a initial value of more than $ 60 billion.

In the same context, Professor Mustafa Al -Gharfy, technical advisor to the project and former head of the Boa Azar mine

“The metal tissues and the pattern of mineralization of the Amasin project carry strong similarities

With the most prominent areas of strategic mineral extraction in Morocco, with a greater superficial spread.

The company is currently running an advanced stage of exploration through a drilling program that includes 20 wells with a total depth of 4,000 meters

In preparation for preparing resource estimates according to international standards (NI 43-101).

It should be noted that chrome, cobalt and nickel minerals constitute basic ingredients in stainless steel industries

And batteries, and defensive systems. While the company considered that the presence of these minerals together in one metal system

It represents a unique opportunity to develop an integrated and high -profit mining project.

According to the official documents seen by the "depth", Catalyst Mines Inc focuses on developing strategic metal assets in Morocco

With its commitment to the standards of sustainability and social responsibility, and the promotion of local partnerships to support global energy transition efforts

The investment program includes the following components:
  • Water transport: The creation of infrastructure for transporting water between the valley of Sebu and the basin of Wadi Umm Al -Rabi'a with a capacity of 800 million cubic meters annually, which contributes to facing the status of water stress.
  • Water desalination: The establishment of seawater desalination plants with a total capacity of 900 million cubic meters annually, which depends entirely on renewable energy, which contributes to enhancing the national water desalination capacity, with a targeted price that corresponds to the reference prices specified for desalination projects based on the national level, provided that it does not exceed 4.5 dirhams (outside the tax) per cubic meter.
  • Electricity transmission: Establishing an electrical line for the continuous high -voltage current (HVDC) with a length of 1400 km linking the south and central Kingdom with a capacity of 3000 megawatts, allowing to increase the national capacity to transfer electricity and accelerate the development of capabilities in the field of renewable energies in the southern regions of the Kingdom.
  • Renewable electrical energy: Developing additional capabilities in the field of renewable energies of up to 1200 megawatts, allowing increased green electricity production in the Kingdom.
  • Thermal Electrical Energy: Development of plants with a compound cycle operating with a natural gas at a location with a total capacity of approximately 1500 megawatts, which enhances the elasticity of the national electrical system
