Pakistan General Elections 2024

In a dramatic turn of events, newly-appointed Commissioner Rawalpindi, Saif Anwar Jhappa, vehemently denied all allegations leveled by his predecessor, Liaquat Ali Chattha.

Hours after Chattha's shocking confession of involvement in rigging the February 8 elections and his subsequent resignation, Jhappa held a press conference at the DC office on Saturday to address the situation.

Contrary to Chattha's claims, Commissioner Saif Anwar Jhappa, who has taken over the position, insisted that Election 2024 was transparent. He asserted that the commissioner's role was solely one of coordination.

At the press conference, Jhappa was accompanied by the District Returning Officers (DROs) of all four districts under Rawalpindi Division – Hasan Waqar Cheema (Rawalpindi), Qurtaul Ain (Chakwal), Rao Atif Raza (Attock), and Captain Sami (Jhelum).

People of conscience can’t live with themselves knowing what they did. May Allah forgive him now that he has come clean.

Btw, the economist downgraded Pakistan. Probably not going to help getting loans at a reasonable interest rate, if the status quo continues. Dawn covered this story so you know “they” are very well aware of this and its implications. Should human rights continue and a campaign gain steam to name and shame key figures carrying out or aiding and abetting human rights abuses, the Magnitsky act could be used to seizure their and their family’s personal U.S. based assets; bye bye Papa John’s franchises, and block their travel to the US and their use of the US banking system (which is linked with most global banking systems, remember how Hong Kong Executive Carrie Lam couldn’t even access her own money or use a credit in her own city, and had to use cash for everything) this is a powerful economic tools for human rights abusers and is being used a lot. Just look at all the world leaders it has been used against, in just the past few years.
Pakistan was downgraded to an “authoritarian regime”

As in Carrie Lam’s case, it affects not just the perpetrator but their family as well.

If saner heads don’t prevail. God forbid, we might see a similar law passed in the US congress.

Now if prominent Western economic publications are calling Pakistan an autocracy; under an authoritarian regime, well… it’s going to hurt the regime regardless of if Khan friendly Trump or Biden wins. With polarization in the US, only a united and self reconciled actually democratic Pakistan can chart a path to effectively deal with the world.

Biden’s own words put the regime in a though place.

Is this the Chief Justice of India?
Is there no other person living in their house, neighbor, drawer, servant, financial, cook, who came to vote or tell them the situation?

Wow keep blaming the military. The military-industrial complex pays more tax than all your retailers combined.

Bat sirf itni hai kai civilian are corrupt to the core and incompetent to carry out any reforms
This isn't funny... it's hilarious..my stomach is hurting for like 30 min after reading this

That is why i don't believe in haqeeqi azadi chooran. People honestly believe by taking away army's power, their problems will be solved. What they don't understand is that they'll be worse off. Once civilians have absolute power then there's no check.

All of Pakistan issues are due to poor economic reforms by the civilians.

I agree fully, but we should be working towards not taking away army power but having a balance between civilian and army rule, allow reforms in judiciary and police so that common people are given justice, rule of law is followed by all. This is what is causing all the sufferings. The economic situation will be difficult to change unless the people change and become hard working, get away from extremism and separatism and work towards building a strong state. The people of Pakistan are upset because we are made to be ruled by the same people for 30+ years, ruled by the dacoits and mafias.
