Indian Navy was offered a naval variant of the Tejas MK2, but they rejected it, stating that single-engine jets are not ideal for aircraft carriers. HAL then proposed a twin-engine variant of the Tejas MK2. However, the Navy again rejected it, arguing that converting a single-engine design to a twin-engine would compromise its aerodynamic performance. Consequently, HAL decided to develop a new twin-engine deck-based fighter from scratch.

Very strange behaviour of Indian Navy, Tejas has GaN based AESA Radar and has modern design and world best missiles integrated and what not. I don't know why they are pursuing Rafale M too as Tejas are more advance than Rafale, Eurofighter, F16 block 70, F18 etc. Very strange behaviour, very strange.

Because Tejas is not a twin engine fighter jet

You can smell the Sacrcasm from a mile away.

BTW

The reason for rejection of Tejas as a naval fighter is simple

Navy wants twin engine fighters because they are safer since their are no diversion airports over the ocean .

Also Tejas couldn't take off with adequate weapons and Fuel load from the carrier
HAL had conducted trials of Tejas from INS Vikramaditya, it was able to perform carrier take off and landing but without external drop tanks and only 2 AAM
That's not enough
And it was unable to carry the 600 kg Kh31 ANTI SHIP MISSILE which the Mig29k can
While
Rafale Ms even managed to take off with 4 Meteor, and 2 Exocet anti ships missiles as well as 2 drop tanks

But HAL offered a twin engine Tejas to Navy.

The program has been renamed as TEDBF
It will come sometime in 2038-40 and will replace Mig29Ks of the Navy
Because of the 15 year waiting period, we are buying 26 Rafale Ms so that we have adequate fighters for our 2 Carriers

They do plan to use Twin seat Tejas N for carrier Take off and landing training

Our present Inventory of 7 twinseat Mig29KAB are not enough
I do expect the Navy to order 12-18 Naval Tejas Trainer sometime in 2026 once HAL completes delivery of Batch 1 Tejas Mk1a Trainers

The problem for us is that China is now our primary adversary. Pakistan has suffered a catastrophic reduction of its Comprehensive National Power. It is less and less of a military threat every year. It's economy is going to stay stagnant for at least a decade, their social indicators are years behind India. And over the next decade, the gaps will increase further across all domains as we ramp up.

However, China is increasingly a bigger threat. Their actions across the world clearly show case that it is a bully that will try to shove everyone around it. Our military has to be potent enough to deter China. That is where we are falling short.
And, it's a great relief for Pak too! One strike corps is already gone, and 22 divisions are now down to 16. And, many more are to go to cater for China, who is playing Bharat like a ping-pong ball....

Now, the Pak Deep State can develop its asymmetric capailities via the robotic means, thanks to being entwined with the Turkish military industrial complex. The strategy should be simple: charging at a lightning speed like the Turkic horsemen used to do to cut off the trunks of the humongous Bharati elephants....

Pakistan is already in crisis and will continue to decline steadily over the next decade.

Turkey is no different. Your economy is barely holding on. Turkey will continue to be in stagflation for at least a decade and decline after that. Turkey's CNP is also starting a decline. You're not going to be making much of a difference anywhere.
