According to AUTOSTAT agency, in August 2024, Russians spent 634.2 billion rubles to buy used cars. Thus, for the second month in a row they set a record for spending in the secondary market. Recall that in July, residents of Russian Federation spent on used cars 620 billion rubles, which then became the maximum indicator in the history of monitoring the market.

And now, in August, a new record has been set. It is also worth noting that the August result is 2.3% higher than the July one. At the same time, in compare with the level of a year ago (591.7 billion rubles - in August 2023), it is 7.2% higher. 91% of all the money spent at the end of summer was on foreign used cars, which cost for Russians 577.3 billion rubles. And only 9% are the costs of buying used domestic cars (56.9 billion rubles). If we consider the results of the first 8 months of this year, then during this period more than 4.4 trillion was spent on the purchase of used cars. And this is 16% more than the indicator of January - August 2023.

According to the experts of AUTOSTAT agency, this is a record sales figure since 2022, i.e. for the last about three years. Recall that the previous record for car sales in one week was set in the period from 28 February to 6 March 2022 (the 9th week at that time).

At that time, 38 529 new passenger cars were sold. As for the last week of September this year (39th week), the market leader remained the domestic brand LADA, whose cars sold 10,335 vehicles during this time. The second place is held by Chinese brand Haval with the result of 5621 vehicles. Geely (4,291 vehicles) moved up to the third position, which managed to slightly surpass Chery (4,289 vehicles). Another Chinese - Changan (3121 vehicles) – is in the top 5.

Experts of AUTOSTAT agency note that for a number of participants of the Russian car market last week was also a record week in terms of sales volumes.
