Scientists find genetic link between Attila’s Huns and Xiongnu empire that fought Han China

A link between the Huns and Xiongnu was long suspected and now scientists say DNA evidence links the two empires across the centuries

Scientists have discovered a genetic link between the Huns who ravaged Europe in the latter years of the Western Roman Empire and the Xiongnu confederacy that lived on the Mongolian steppe before their eventual defeat by the Chinese Han empire hundreds of years earlier.

There has long been speculation about the origin of the Huns – whose best-known leader Attila was known as the “scourge of God” – after they suddenly appeared in Europe in the late fourth century displacing a number of Germanic tribes including the Goths.

Due to a lack of evidence, academics have never reached a consensus about their origins but there has long been speculation about the Huns’ possible link to the Xiongnu, with some scholars speculating that the names were linguistically related.

Now an international team of scientists have used genomic analysis of ancient DNA to confirm the presence of direct descendants of the Xiongnu imperial elite within the Hunnic empire – though they found that most of the population was still of predominantly European descent.

“Long-shared genomic tracts provide compelling evidence of genetic lineages directly connecting some individuals of the highest Xiongnu-period elite with … Carpathian basin individuals, showing that some European Huns descended from them,” the team said in a paper published in the peer-reviewed journal PNAS on February 24.

“We find no evidence for the presence of a large eastern/steppe descent community among the Hun- and post-Hun-period Carpathian basin,” the international research team added.

So the Huns split into two parts after they were defeated by the Chinese Han army. The Eastern Huns became slaves to the Emperor of the Han Dynasty and the Western Huns fled to Europe and then destroyed the Roman Empire.

In a strikingly similar history, seven hundred years later, the Chinese Tang Dynasty army defeated the Turks, who split into two parts. The Eastern Turks became slaves of the Tang emperors, and the Western Turks fled to Europe to exterminate the Eastern Roman Empire of Byzantium.

Bigger portion of Eastern Huns became Hephthalites

What's with the joker Hungarians and even Bulgarians claiming Steppe lineage and even Mongol ties lol hahaha.

Yes I can really see this;

Yes they're Ural people, not Altai like I said.
They're a mix of European, Finno-Permic, Caucasian, and Siberian paternal lineage. Basically Europeans.
They see Attila as their ancestor since 5th century huns settled in the carpathian basin.
Given the language and origin story differences they see themselves appart compared to the rest who are either have latin, celt, slavic or germanic origins

Studies have bee done on this, they're pretty much European with a tiny mix.

Well , you got historical precedence to claim sovereignty over Europe and north America ......hope you won't forget your iron brother and will share the loot with him.

wtf? I don't understand your logic? What does the Huns defeating Rome have to do with claiming sovereignty?

Huns are from East Asian stock , your genetic brothers .......when they defeated the Roman empire they became the sovereigns of the Roman empire ......if the Jews can claim Israel why can't you ?

According to Sử Trung Quốc compiled by Vietnamese historian Nguyễn Hiến Lê, after defeating Xiongnu, in early 3rd century AD, Cao Cao (Tào Tháo) moved 200,000 people of Southern Xiongnu tribes to Shanxi province, which was the root cause of the anarchy of 05 barbarians (Loạn Ngũ Hồ in Vietnamese) in the next 250 years, when numerous non-Han dynasties were found in the North of China.

The Northern Xiongnu fled to the West and became formidable Huns in Europe, 200 years later.

Nonsense. The Huns were the enemies and slaves of our ancestors, not our brothers. Our blood comes from the Yan Emperor and the Yellow Emperor, we are descended from dragons and have nothing to do with prairie wolves.
