SMASH SLBM Testing - Nov 2025

What about FACs?
If you have 10x FACs carrying 2x2 (4 SLBMs) and attacking in groups of 4-5 to make it meaningful and also presenting smaller targets to hit. Of course they need air cover and adequate range.
again, dont forget, these are 2500kg missiles...

4x means 10000kg

Haibat/Azmat class carry 8x C802 which is about 5600Kgs....
Yeah maybe carry 2x or strengthen the platform

Azmats are already very heavily armed for their size. At that point its better making yarmook/babur sized corvettes as dedicated launch platforms. I dont think you can realistically make azmats much bigger but rather just make more iteratives of them

is this worth it is the question, especially when going against hefty ad, id say mag depth is key

far easier said than done
Deploy smaller platform in numbers. 4-5 FACs together with Air cover.

Notice that there's been no images of the modified F22P actually carrying the SMASH, at least not one I've seen. Clearly it's still at the test stage rather than full deployment, and my guess would be that they might modify the F22P fleet as part of a major retrofit to accommodate SMASH. I doubt it'll be as straightforward as removing the C802 missiles and simply installing SMASH.

Mag depth depends on the enemys mag depth as well and IN vessels don’t particularly have very deep mag depth. Also notably fwik barak 8 has rather limited ABM capabilities and only the er version has proper ability and that is quite literally the best they have for now. I think it is genuinely better to convert half our fleet to AShBM platforms provided the rest has enough CMs and SSCMs. Really i just see building more FACs as the best way to solve the latter problem

I would rather make smaller (perhaps autonomous) platforms in numbers that you are able to deploy in numbers (groups of 5-8) to interdict the enemy while presenting a smaller target. but it does require proper air cover to survive.

Being smaller is not actually an advantage. Missiles and targeting systems are still perfectly able to hit you and you can only keep so many capabilities whilst being smaller. Frankly the role of USVs in this context is non existent as of now.

Fair point .

Nothing looks new. The previous test was Sea to Shore target capacity. This one is Sea to sea display of capability.

People don't understand exact threat environment
Indian navy brahmos is 800 km range
With 400 km range smash you are getting deep into Indian Navy's reach
And you don't go into fight considering your opponent will miss target
For now best thing is to make 1000 km version
And deploy ok land
Hard part of creating kill chain and seeker and hitting a moving sea target is done
Better booster longer range is no issue
Deployment on ships will take much time and will be shorter range them IN
Best area denial strategy would be deploying on land with 1000 KM range
Using satellite, MPA, drone aew, fighter jet J10C for guidance to Indian navy ships that will just have 150 km Sam for at least 15 years more
