Global Combat Air Programme Awards First Contract with Edgewing

( Good link, worth reading by all .. ).

First format contract has been signed, so we have "lift off" for a little while ...

Canada has joined as an observer, so they could well be a good customer for the platform. They need to work out if/how they can get Canada involved without disrupting the programme, a key area may be weapons? Germany(!!!!!!), Sweden and Poland are starting to express interest too, as potential customers.

India wanted to join as a "development" partner, but has been given a firm no on that account.

Airbus Looks To Sweden’s Saab As Europe’s Sixth-Gen Fighter Plans Unravel

>> Delay in the Defense Plan may cause Japan to pull out if the UK Government does not get a move on...

There’s no need to keep pushing it forward at all. It was already seriously behind even at the technical concept stage. What sixth-generation fighter jet still has a tail at the conceptual design stage?

Advanced fighter jets are no longer something Europe can handle. Europe can stick to making watches, champagne, wine, and luxury goods—those industries are about all it’s good for.

What a complete waste of money. Even if Tempest/ GCAP does get built (which is a big if), we'll only be able to afford a few dozen of them, and being runway-dependent aircraft they'll be extremely vulnerable on the ground.

Germany and France have announced the cancellation of the FCAS program! So, how long can the GCAP program continue?
If the British government is unwilling to sign a long-term investment agreement for this project, then it's already clear that the British have long been in private discussions with the Americans, preparing to switch to the F47 project and abandon the unreliable GCAP 5.5 Generation project.
