Just because this picture show the hall from DNC is empty, that does not mean nobody attended DNC



Photo only take a snap shot of that particular time, it does not represent the whole fact, just because you show me a long queue (Again, it wasn't really that long to begin with) does not mean it's going to be like that 24/7 and everyday. Even if you show me thousand photo of long queue in front of a library does not mean they are going to be attended all the time.

Again, photo WERE NEVER a true representation of facts. Which is wrong for you to say that, as that's intellectually dishonest.

For every photo you can find and post about the "fact" that how "Stuffed" Chinese Library was, I can find you one that show how "empty" it was. That's why photo is NOT an indication of facts. Regardless how many you can look it up.

That's a phase when people say "No one goes to do something" it mean there are not enough interest on that something. It does not mean literally 0 people going to those place

I am guessing when you read this Screen Rant article you are thinking 0 people go to cinema nowadays.....LOL

And hordes of people pay for private tuition too in China, what's that have to do with Library? You can study anywhere, you just need a room, a Library sole purpose is not for people who organise self-study, the main purpose for a Library is for people to use their collection and do research. That's why there a lot of books and article there and not as many rooms.........

I will not say it is a waste of funding.

Lets be honest. No one really needs these libraries anymore for studying. You can get every darned book in the world on your ipad (or remarkable "pad", if you absolutely want a paper like feel). There are e-libraries which are almost free and allow you to borrow books. Thats not the purpose here at all.

Libraries are also meeting places. To meet new folks. One thing I really like about Canada is that each neighbourhood has its own library. Very useful thing. I take my kid regularly to library for him to meet other kids who like to read and to... duh.... actually read books and get new books. I love it. It promotes reading habit and a community.

These kind of "grand libraries" are more of a show off for the government but also provides a place for people to meet and study. Not to mention it promotes a sense of pride too. To be honest if the purpose was to just provide books, they could have gotten rights for practically all books, all periodicals and journals centrally (and may be they do) and provide it over internet for whole population of China or may to individual schools and universities (and may be they do that as well).

The library is more of an invitation to meet and read. Looking grand is a statement of pride. Expenses are to justify taxes they collect and may be to make some money for few party members as well (who knows?).

A pretty win win proposition.

Do you know what is a community hall or rec center?? I mean do you not have them in Canada? Those were places you get your community activities for, from yoga/gym session to comic book trading.......that's the place people in the community do meetup

We have rec centre here. Its mostly sports activities. Some rehab stuff and so on.

Some smaller neighbourhoods combine rec centre and library.

Mostly old folks with rehab requirements meet there. Or folks who want to swim or some clubs who want space. For folks who want to read or meet other readers, they go to library.

If library is in rec centre, they go into library inside rec centre.

I mean... its very basic stuff.... I do not see a point of debate here.
