Trump Announces Major Pakistan Trade Deal, Vows Joint Oil Development/Exploration

6% lesser tariff than that on India, can be crucial for many low margin sectors.
BUT, what are the areas where Pakistan can take benefit of this edge offered to them?
To my knowledge, the manufacturing sector in Pakistan is almost non existent and if efforts are started in earnest, it would take atleast 3-4 years to make use of this opportunity.
I haven’t seen this kind of proactiveness from any Pak government in the last couple of decades.

Closely monitoring this space to see, how this is grabbed by our western neighbours.

India is a democracy. The party in government reflects the will of the people.

Rapproachment with Pakistan is a non starter unless Pakistan gives up Kashmir, which it won't. And frankly the feeling is mutual. The average Pakistani is not interested in peace with India unless India gives up Kashmir either.

There is more tolerance in India for improving relations with China because historically( pre 1947) the two countries were never in conflict because of the geographical barriers between them. The 1962 attack by China is an unpleasant memory , but there is no civilisational hatred towards the Chinese like there is towards Pakistanis among a large section of the population.

Don't think the readers are plain stupid. Your issues with China and Pakistan are the same. You change the intensity based on your own needs. Just like you did with the West, ate their trillions and didn't even say thank you, forget about being an ally.

1) You have a LAND dispute with both Pakistan and China. It's the same issue......"LAND". However, due to your internal benefits and concerns, you over-hype one (Pakistan) and under-hype the other (China).

2) You can't militarily fight with China. Your OWN military's assessment is, a full conventional war with China will cut ALL SEVEN states at the Chicken's neck and the war will last maximum 7 days ONLY!! So why mess with the Dragon who will swallow a decent portion of your country without a burp?

3) China: you need for your own growth and trade. Its the world's largest trade machine right at your borders, connected with roads and it saves billions in shipping and other cost that you would pay if let's say you were trading with Africa or Europe in this capacity. This is strategic for India and for Indians to have cheaper cost of goods sourced from China.

With Pakistan, until May 2025, Modi and the likes in RSS, really thought they had such an overwhelming military power that they could crush. To look like a big power ready, May 2025 was done. The result not only created earth quakes in Indian political and military elite, it ruined your entire reputation in front of the entire globe. The world does NOT see South Asia belonging to India only. It is now SHARED with Pakistan.

So these are the reasons why a LAND issue is treated differently with China and Pakistan.

19% seems high. Still major agri and textile exports will be 6% cheaper then Indias to US market, nothing to be sneezed at and can give some of our companies a good head start

19% is on lower side in Asia. Plus if someone told me 3 months ago Pakistan would get 6% discount vs India aka vishwaguru strategic QUAD partner, I would have laughed.

India said no to F35, no to opening up our farm sector, stood firm on things that matter to us and got slapped with a 25% tariff. And even that excludes electronics and IT, our biggest exports and that’s before the deal is even final. Talks are still ongoing. Some give and take, and we might actually come out with a better setup once it’s done.

Meanwhile, Pakistan hears "oil" and immediately offers up mineral rights, joint exploration, mystery reserves, and starts blowing kisses Trump’s way and still gets hit with 19%.

And somehow, PDFers are dancing in the streets like they just outmaneuvered everyone all at once. you gave away your entire lunch and got taxed for delivery.

At least India’s negotiating. You lot jump into bed the second someone flashes a deal, no foreplay, no strategy, just "yes please", this is pure comedy ☺️

If USA invests in those then its a win for Pakistan.

19%???We offered rare earth minerals, oil and gas greater purchase of us oil cotton and soyabean heck possible recognition of Israel for 19%.This the victory our government was jumping up and down for 😡😡😡😡

Do you have a background in this area? If you aren't understanding what this 19% means without using Chat GPT (even that won't have true answers), why not ask the members first so someone can give your proper details?

:ROFLMAO: Indians are always Indians, can never ask a question without negativity. People sitting in RAW's 2.5 feet cubicles in Noida city, trying to act like PHD's on Pakistani economy :ROFLMAO:

- We have an extremely robust manufacturing base in Textiles (un-stitched), Clothing (ready made), Sporting goods, Medical and Surgical equipment and a massive labor force in IT & Medical (Docs, Nurses).

- Denim jeans wear for Levis and Guess is built in Lahore. Adidas, Nike and Puma in Sialkot!

- These are our 3 main export areas from a manufacturing standpoint. We already export billion worth of goods to various parts of the globe.
- We can take up to $ 20 billion worth additional orders without expansion.

- Medical labor (doctors and nurses) going to Middle East, Africa, and many to UK and USA.

- A thriving IT freelance industry, will be lined to below soon.

- Crypto + AI: Industry expertise will be built now with US, like how you guys got the IT support work, we'll be getting future AI and Crypto mining related business from the US under the new deal.

Crypto + AI?, you're still struggling to keep the electricity on during dinner, and now you're daydreaming about AI clusters and crypto mining like it’s Silicon Sialkot.

And you "exporting" Levi’s and Adidas? stitching logos doesn’t make you a fashion tech hub. By that logic, every kid with a sewing kit is running a textile empire. BD is doing much better in this area and has a big advantage

To add, Trump term ends in another 3 years.
God only knows about what next presidents gonna do.

If the so called proper details are what you listed in subsequent post of yours then you too need a little education.
Medical labor (doctors and nurses) going to Middle East, Africa, and many to UK and USA.
Is that manufacturing? And how would this benefit from lower tariff?
- We can take up to $ 20 billion worth additional orders without expansion
How did you arrive at this figure?

Crypto + AI: Industry expertise will be built now with US, like how you guys got the IT support work, we'll be getting future AI and Crypto mining related business from the US under the new deal.
Any announcements in this regard? Any delegation working on this? It just appears to be your desire and expectations put in a para as definitive outcomes.

One request. Please remain civil and dignified if you want a discussion. The way you have gone on to quote RAW and cubicles, indicates otherwise.

Like I said, sitting in Noida in a 2.5 feet RAW cubicle and acting like PHD on Pakistani economy doesn't make you one. You still remain a RAW employee making 50k INR with "PHULL benefits". Tell RAW sarkar to raise your salaries a bit. Trump's tariffs are about to bite, inflation coming.

Do some research, you'll find proofs of what I told you. What we make and sell to Americans for $ 15 a piece, is sold in American outlets for nearly $ 75 in season.

What is surprising is that all this while we were talking about rare earth critical minerals and suddenly out of the blue trump starts to talk of oil deposits in Pakistan

Don't be surprised next he proposes building a 'massive' Barbie Doll factory in Pakistan. Trump just pulls things out of his a$$. He is unreliable.
But, hey, he is going a great job trolling 1.5 billion people so... enjoy your popcorns!

Trump just said "we will offer you7% rebate compared to India" and all of sudden Pakistan is up with Joy.

Even with a trade deal in what way does Pakistan benefit from it.

Please don't quote some (probably) non existent oil/shale reserves

And AI and crypto? What’s next, quantum computing from Muridke? Mars mission from Mianwali? Please, pace the delusions.
