In FY 2023–24, India’s software and IT services exports reached $200 billion.
If we strip away outsourcing, remittances, and IT job-related exports, India’s remaining IT exports would be $5.5 billion worth of software products in FY 2023–24.
The US accounts for nearly 70% of India’s $200 billion software services exports in FY24.
That’s roughly $143.6 billion from IT services, BPO, and software development flowing directly from US clients.
I think its time Pakistan got a fair share of this trade.

India IT exports are low tech on par with Pakistan, any other 3rd world country can replace it with USA support. You had 30 years of USA blessing for your low tech IT industry to get here, remained low tech and now will be replaced by AI. Your IT companies had billions to invest in R&D but they were happy to remain IT coolies of Americans.
If Modi doesn't surrender then Trump next target will be IT exports.

The United States, particularly under Trump’s leadership, has pushed a highly transactional and aggressive trade policy. The core of this policy is simple: “If we’re buying $20 billion worth of goods from your country, then you must buy $20 billion worth from us.” On paper, it sounds fair. In reality, it’s impractical and often harmful — especially for countries that rely on trade surpluses to maintain economic growth.
Take China, for example. It exports over $300 billion worth of goods to the U.S. annually. But what can the U.S. offer in return at that scale? The typical answer is oil and gas — but that’s not a viable solution. American oil is expensive, and countries like China can access far cheaper energy from Russia and Iran. Forcing China to buy costly American resources would damage its economy and reduce competitiveness. It’s an unrealistic expectation.
India is facing a similar dilemma. It’s already importing discounted oil from Russia while also purchasing weapons from the United States. This dual approach has allowed India to balance cost and security but now, under Trump’s vision, they’re being pressured to go all-in on American goods. That would impose a huge economic burden. U.S. products, especially energy and defense equipment, are significantly more expensive and not always ideal for large, developing economies like India’s.
Even when it comes to Indian exports — such as pharmaceuticals, software, or textiles the financial return does not match what America is demanding. The trade is not balanced in real value. Trump’s approach is to strong-arm countries into one-sided deals that prioritize American interests, regardless of what’s economically logical or sustainable for the other side.
India’s troubles don’t end there. It has also suffered a major setback in regional influence due to repeated military embarrassments most notably in 2019 and again in 2025 when its fighter jets were destroyed by Pakistan. These incidents didn’t just dent India’s military hardware; they undermined the perception of its military power, which is essential for diplomatic credibility and economic confidence. Military strength gives a nation strategic cover — and once that image cracks, so does its bargaining power on the global stage.
Recognizing this vulnerability, global powers especially the U.S. have begun pressuring India more aggressively. With its image shaken, India is being pushed toward deeper strategic and economic commitments. In short, it’s being milked — treated not as a partner, but as a weakened player that must buy its way back into favor.

It is not that the success factors in this industry - large pool of educated engineers/programmers, reliable electricity, reliable connectivity, some upfront tax incentives at infancy stage were unknown to you.
What prevented you from doing all of this?
