Iranian missiles being intercepted over Jordan
Wow we actually have come to an agreement yes and that is why ships are crossing because USN knows those routes are either not heavily mined or not mined at allOK, let's decipher this.
Strait of Hormuz — shipping routes
- Iranian side: Iranian territorial waters
- Omani side: Omani territorial waters
- Central shipping route: The route runs through areas on both the Iranian and Omani sides.
Iranian claim regarding mines
- Iranian side — mined: Yes
- Omani side — mined: No
- Central route — Iranian side: Mined / claimed to have been mined
- Central route — Omani side: No
US claim regarding mines cleared
- Iranian side — mined: Yes / not cleared
- Omani side — cleared
- Central route — Iranian side: cleared
- Central route — Omani side: cleared
My interpretation:
I am of the opinion that Iran may have mined its own side of the Strait, as well as the portion of the central shipping route on the Iranian side.
If that interpretation is correct:
This could explain the apparent contradiction between the Iranian and US statements.
- The Iranian side remains mined.
- The Iranian portion of the central shipping route has been cleared.
- The Omani side was never mined.
- The Omani portion of the central shipping route was never mined.
Iran may be referring specifically to the mines on the Iranian side, while the US is referring to the Omani side and the central shipping route that it says has been cleared.
