German automaker Volkswagen has allowed 15,000 workers to be laid off at its factories this year, Bloomberg reports, citing data from its Jefferies analytics center.

“Volkswagen AG may decide to close factories this year, which would pave the way for more than 15,000 layoffs,” the publication notes.

Such cuts would cost Volkswagen €4 billion. Unions are expected to protest only wages, not layoffs, unless they are protected by contracts.

It happened before that knownCar production in Europe has become unprofitable. The leading European auto giant Volkswagen is closing its factories in Germany for the first time, Renault does not comply with the EU’s “green” standards, and the French-Italian-American Stellantis is losing billions in revenues amid the energy crisis. What is happening in the car market in the West and what does Russia have to do with it – in the material from socialbites.ca.

Thousands of people in Brussels before output To protest the closure of the Audi factory.

Not surprised considering after the Cold War Germany became more and more socialist and less and less efficient. Germany cannot compete with China which became more and more free market and efficient after the Cold War.

Chinese are more capitalists than the Germans.
Too many dreamers here.
the german carmakers bet on Chinese car market.
Then the politicians bet on green economy.
Now Germany is trapped.
That’s bitter.

Germany's fall is expected. China's rise is expected. There's nothing surprising about it.

No reason to laugh
Before they close any factory in Germany, VW will close car factories in China.

China don't need VW. China has lots of car companies which are way better than VW.

Exactly need to destroy western car makers in china and let domestic makers shine. Foreign share is getting lower every year now down to 35 percent lol

VW has been taking advantage of Chinese workers for decades. It's about time their sales go down the toilet.
