Indeed there were, but those claims were made when the whole program was in ambiguity due to non sanctions of funds.Let me be honest here. There were interviews with officials including former ADA Chief Girish Deodhare that gave timelines like metal cutting to start in Feb 2022 and prototype roll-out in 2023. Fan boys didn't come up with these dates out of thin air. Knowing Dr Deodhare, I'm pretty certain that they felt that the first prototype could be built with existing funds, without having to wait for CCS sanction for the Tejas Mk2 program. But that didn't happen and as it ended up, it made them look bad.
Fact is that Program Management is a very important aspect of such complex programs. If there are many factors that define when a program will see a roll-out or first flight then it is best to mention those when giving dates.
Anyway, now that CCS sanction has come, funds will begin to flow. Now, a 36 month timeline will be a reality, and a proper schedule for building the first prototype, first taxi trials, first flight, etc. will be created.


Midhani are already supplying critical materials for the bulkhead frame of AMCA. Another 4 to 5 critical materials are at the development stage for AMCA. AFAIK, Midhani supplied the first Titanium alloy slab for the bulkhead years ago and machining of the same had already started years ago. 2021 or 2022 if I remember right. The whole 5th gen AMCA airframe will have titanium alloys. Enormous potential from a-z in defence.
If CCS sanction has been given, then timelines are also defined. The program will now definitely pick up speed, but the issue at hand is that the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to build the AMCA in a Public-Private partnership model hasn't been finalized.Good news.... but still can't see this program taking any speed.... this is just approval given..... knowing our speed funds allocation may take another 1 or 2 or even 3 years easily..... then the prototype construction will start..... meanwhile knowing retarded IAF they may come again with some "CHANGES" and delay it further....

The Idea of parallel development is truly lost to us Indians.
We can not even comprehend anything beyond a step by step process.
Is CDR really so important that you won't release funds for even basic ground testing.
systems level CDR will not causing any changes in the basic airframe so why not fund atleast fund that while CDR is going on.
Same case happened with Tejas mk 2 and now with AMCA and I am 100% sure will happen with TEDBF.

any delay of 3-4 years in Mk2 induction is acceptable since Mk1A is under production it can be enhanced and expanded for full fill the shortfall.
I would prefer Tejas Mk2 to be a test bed plane rather an end product since it can be used to develop technology for larger Single, Twin & Future Gen fighter planes.

There will be 40 units of AMCA Mk1 (with the GE F-414-INS6 engine) built. That's a sizeable number. And it doesn't make sense to go for the SPV only after that, since by then the AMCA assembly line will already have to be built with most of the AMCA requirements already having to be met.
