CCS clears AMCA for IAF

Those elections are all but a formality based upon true progress but boosted with communal tactics and some accusations of opposition suppression.
With the ruling party, the tactics are to be expected. These tactics is what got them into reckoning in first place, and a space that the grand old party vacated by itself.

The accusations aren't wrong exactly, and the ruling party is actively trying its best to wipe out any challenger. Although one has to say in 'legal' way, as 'morality' has no place in politics. So its the opposition's ineptitude to keep its house in check, as well as put up a fight. A sorry thing for democracy, but then.. wasn't my country a single party democracy for so many decades since it 'started'? So who are we to blame ?? Not sure

When I first read history and particularly dynasties, I always wondered how come they always end in fourth or fifth iteration. Its the case with any of them, and I mean Indian ones. Looking at grand old party, I finally got my answer.

I don't think there will be 400-500 Mk2, maximum number will be 120-140 which able to replace MIg-29s & Mirage by 2030.

No , 250 minimum , +120 LCA + 200 Amca + 120 Rafales ,still short of 42 sanctioned sqdrn strength.

Adding it for those who believe we be retiring MKI before 2050.

Another income stream that HAL Nashik is developing is the periodic overhaul of Sukhoi-30MKIs, which falls due after 11 years of operational service, or 1,500 flight hours. This has been allocated to the Overhaul Division of HAL Nashik, which is currently overhauling 15-16 fighters each year and looking at increasing that to 20.

Furthermore, with the Sukhoi-30MKI airframe considered capable of 8,000 flight hours, each fighter would undergo three overhauls during its four-decade service life, creating a long-term income stream for the MiG Complex.

If CCS sanction has been given, then timelines are also defined. The program will now definitely pick up speed, but the issue at hand is that the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to build the AMCA in a Public-Private partnership model hasn't been finalized.

It would've been ideal to have it ready by now so that the JV would be the one building the AMCA prototype. Now it'll just be HAL and it's suppliers, from both public and private sectors.
The SPV program is what got us into this soup, in first place. Frankly its idiotic to expect Indian Private Aviation sector, to take up the challenge of working on a fifth gen fighter.

While the thought seems to be good, it was foolish practically. A sector that hasn't build even a third gen plane on its own, is expected to take up straight away fifth gen project??? Does it even make sense ??

Nearly two years were lost in this wild goose chase

The on-paper specifications of the AMCA are far superior compared to F-35. It remains to be seen whether these specifications will be realized in reality.

Cannot wait to see it, but again - I know I'm the one who constantly ruins the parties - seeing is believing.

So let's wait if not again as in the Tejas mk.2 program it will be delayed.

This is not clearing the AMCA - that's just crappy defence journalism. This is actually clearence for construction of prototypes.

So in two years time (2026) a protype will fly with US engines? That is an ambitious timeline indeed.

This is not project approval. What this means is that the Critical Design Review has been completed, all needed technologies are considered as complete and money is released for construction of prototypes. That's the 1.5 Billion for.

Turkey didn't wait for CDR to give go ahead for prototype construction because most countries don't. In India because you have a bunch of risk averse babus running our programs, they dragged this out for years.

@DDG-80 but if some part of construction two years ago, then should I assume HAL put their own money to kick things off while these babus were sitting on their @$$e$ ?

Will not fly before 2090. As usual, GoI at work. Nothing gets done properly. Funds will be delayed. "Critical Tech" will be delayed and what not.

India's best chance is to skip fifth gen and join France and Germany in Sixth gen project.

For fifth gen just buy 120 F-35 and bite the bullet for once. That will be 100-200 billion well spent on something that will actually work.

What ? Most countries dont ? It is just Turkey that is weird where domestic politics can interfere serious engineering project like fighter development program.

PDR, CDR is a must. For KFX/ IFX pogram, the program passed CDR in September 2019. Construction of prototype follow CDR approval.

For Indonesia plane development, the prototyping phase include detail design phase, so gov will decide the plane goes to prototyping phase after basic design is completed. Detail design needs huge design engineers so the prototyping financing also needs to finance detail design phase. The logic behind it is that if we start the detail design phase it means we are already sure about making the prototypes and all of the testing until type certificate is taken.

Which looks like a copy of F-35 so yeah. No issues there.

Well, the funny part however is indeed that since years in all social media groups like this one Indians are mocking CHinese for onyl copying while their own types are praised as great individual unique platforms ... and now they make a fighter that is more a copy of the J-35 than the J-35 ever could be rated of the F-35 simply since it has two engines! 😙

By the way, just the latest image of the J-35
