Changan will officially debut its Qiyuan E07 all-electric cross-over SUV at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show later this month and open blind ordering subsequently. The E07 has an internal codename CD701 and is the first model of the Changan Qiyuan E0 series. The market launch is expected to be in October this year.

Declaration information indicates that the Changan Qiyuan E07 is positioned as a medium-to-large pure electric crossover vehicle that can switch between SUV and pickup truck, built based on Changan’s SDA platform, with a size of 5045/1996/1640 (1665,1695) mm, a wheelbase of 3120 mm, and a 5-seater layout.

Power for the single-motor version comes from a 252 kW electric motor and has a top speed of 201 km/h. The maximum power of the front and rear electric motors of the dual-motor version is 188 kW and 252 kW, respectively. The top speed for the four-wheel drive is 210 km/h. Additionally, the entire series is equipped with ternary lithium battery packs, but the detailed battery and range specifications have not been announced at this time.

One highlight of the Changan Qiyuan E07 is its rear, which resembles a pickup truck when the tailgate is opened downward. At the same time, from the side, the body shape looks similar to that of a pickup truck. The roof also slides downward.
Additionally, the new car is equipped with a black roof rack, side and rear cameras, and hidden door handles, paired with 20/21-inch five-spoke rims.

Inside, the cockpit features a large floating central control screen in the middle, a D-shape steering wheel, and a ceiling entertainment screen. The traditional instrument panel is replaced by an AR-HUD. There are also two cup holders and a wireless charging pad on the center console. Furthermore, the front seats can be folded down to form a flatbed with the rear seats.

The updated 2024 Nio ET7 started preorders on April 16 and will officially launch at the Beijing Auto Show next week. The massive 150 kWh semi-solid state battery pack started mass production on April 3 and will hit the swap stations in May or June, according to Nio.

The Shanghai-based company conducted the range test on April 16 on three different routes, reaching 1,070 km, 1,062 km, and 1,046 km range, respectively.
Nio ET7 reached the top score on the route between Kunming and Zhanjiang, achieving 1,070 km (649,86 miles) of range. The average energy consumption was 12.7 kWh/100 km. A total of 757 km was driven on Navigate on Pilot Plus (NOP+), which accounts for 70.7% of the route. It was also a route with the most friendly altitude.

The second most successful route was between Beijing and Hefei, where Nio factories are located. ET7 achieved a 1,062 km range with 13.0 kWh/100km energy consumption. 429 km was driven on NOP+, accounting for 40.3% of the route.
The least successful route was between Nio’s HQ in Shanghai and Xiamen, where ET7 reached the 1,046 range with an average energy consumption of 13.3 kWh/100 km. It was also the route where manual driving was involved the most, with NOP+ participating only on 394 km, which accounts for 37.6% of the route.

It is worth noting that in December last year, William Li, Nio’s CEO, performed the first public test of Nio ET7 with a 150 kWh semi-SSB battery. Li live-streamed the 14-hour journey from Shanghai to Xiamen, reaching 1,044 km of range with 3% battery capacity remaining. However, at this point, Li decided to park at Longjudong Service Area and end the test.

Nio previously announced that a 150 kWh semi-SSB pack would be available only under BaaS (Battery as a Service), where users buy the car without a battery and pay a monthly fee for renting the pack from Nio. The semi-SSB will hit the first swap stations in May or June, and users can swap it into their vehicle within 3 minutes.
Beijing-based battery maker Welion New Energy Technology makes the 150 kWh SSB. Its energy density is 360 Wh/kg, and the whole pack is 260 Wh/kg. According to WeLion, the cooling system is six times stronger than ordinary batteries. The 150 kWh SSB weighs 676 kg, just 20 kg more than Nio’s 100 kWh battery pack. For comparison, the 135.5 kWh LFP battery from BYD weighs 227 kg more – 903 kg.
Nio currently offers two battery options: 75 kWh and 100 kWh. The 2024 Nio ET7 will start deliveries on April 30 after launching at the Beijing Auto Show on April 25.

Pre-orders for the Roewe D5X from SAIC Group will start at the Beijing Auto Show next week. It is the first SUV equipped with the Roewe DMH super hybrid system. The D5X can be seen as an SUV version of the Roewe D7 sedan and so it is highly likely that an all-electric version will be added to the PHEV car. Also the car will likely either form the basis of a future MG model or simply be rebadged as an MG in certain markets.

DMH apparently stands for dual motor hybrid drive – dual-motor here meaning the combination of a 1.5 liter turbo engine and a single electric motor. In the D5X the setup gives the car an all-electric range of 135 km and a combined range of 1,300 km.
Design wise the car embodies Roewe’s new ‘pure and elegant’ design language. Supposedly the front face draws inspiration from cornices and columns in traditional Chinese architecture. The D5X rides on 19-inch wheels with an option for 20-inch wheels. There are hidden door handles. Dimensions are 4700, 1890, 1664 mm (l/w/h), and the car has a wheelbase of 2765 mm.

Inside the Roewe D5X has an uncluttered look with the dashboard dominated by a 24.6-inch floating screen which is made up of two joined screens. Pictured is the two tone interior with cream but there is also an all-black option. Roewe refer to the design as elegant power aesthetics and the car has a Yunsu Intelligent Cockpit. Helping increase intelligence is the Banma AI car machine system which seamlessly links mobile phones and car navigation giving one-click mapping of navigation to the car and charging planning.

Engine power in the D5X comes from a 1.5T unit which provides 110 kW power. There then appear to be a choice of two electric motors. Cheaper versions of the car come with a 11.1 kWh battery and a 145 kW motor while top-spec versions get a 21.4 kWh battery and a 153 kW motor. The all-electric range of 135 km and combined 1,300 km are for the 21.4 kWh battery version. This car also has an acceleration figure of 6.9 seconds. Combined fuel consumption is 1.27 liters per 100 kilometers under WLTC, while minimum state-of-charge fuel consumption is 5.25 l/100 km which sounds on the thirsty side given some of the figures now being achieved by the likes of BYD, Geely and Chery.

A few days ago the kind people at a Chinese government ministry gave us details of the new Hongqi L1 sedan which is set to be a hybrid, yes a hybrid not a PHEV. Also note the car is part of the L series rather than the H series. Generally the L series has been reserved for government people with only the L5 on limited sale to mere mortals.

First off the Hongqi L1 is huge with a length of 5353 mm and rides on a 3260 mm wheelbase, width and height are 1998 and 1511 mm respectively. Design wise though the car is quite different to other members of the L series and looks more like the Hongqi H9 which measures in at a mere 5137 length. Gone are the extremely boxy lines of the L series giving way to more sculpted lines like on the Bentley Flying Spur. The ethos is reportedly to marry a dignified look with luxury.
At the front the car has no shortage of chrome and the rear has a chrome strip under the Hongqi badge and around the exhaust area. There are a number choices of wheel and each seems to have the old Hongqi golden sunflower in the center. 3.0T versions only have 19-inch wheels whereas the 4.0T gains 20-inch wheels both of which seems quite small for a car of this size.

Hongqi L1 cars have a choice of 3.0T and 4.0T hybrid drivetrains. The 3.0T has a CA6GV30TD-30 engine from FAW which has a power rating of 290 kW. On the other hand the 4.0T has a CA8GV40TD-01 engine with peak power of 360 kW. Currently there are no details as to what the hybrid system consists of although the batteries are NCM and presumably quite small.

From the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) we can also learn that the Hongqi L1 has privacy glass for those lucky enough to ride in the back and that there is a panoramic sunroof.
Both cars are pretty hefty with the 3.0T weighing in at 2455 kg and the 4.0T at 2520 kg.

Expect to see the car at next week’s Beijing Auto Show.

The updated Lynk 08 EM-P maintains the same exterior design as the current model. It features sharp lines and Y-shaped daytime running lights, giving it a futuristic style with strong brand recognition. The split headlight design and the overall styling clearly indicate its identity as a Lynk & Co vehicle.

Wey started off as the upmarket SUV brand from Great Wall but seems to have since been superseded by Tank in that area. However, don’t tell that to Wey who with the new Blue Mountain (Lanshan) upgrade seem to be going all out to go upmarket. The Wey Blue Mountain DHT-PHEV is a large SUV and competes with cars such as the Li L8. Upgrades to the Intelligent Driving Edition in fact bring the car very much in line with the Li L8 both in terms of interior comfort and self-driving capabilities.

Not only is the Wey Blue Mountain Intelligent Driving Edition trying to compete with the Li L8 it looks like it inside as well. In front the dashboard is dominated by a large two screen setup with a central screen and a twin screen for the passenger. There is also an augmented reality HUD for the driver displaying information like the surrounding vehicles and plans when undertaking the self-driving functions. The steering wheel loses a spoke and also gets a more minimalistic setup with buttons like in the startup cars rather than the button heavy wheel originally seen. Unlike the Li however the Blue Mountain has a digital instrument screen for the driver as well. The whole setup is very different to the embedded continuous screen seen when the Blue Mountain originally launched last year.

Seating is in a 2+2+2 layout. The central armrest has a refrigerator that can hold six bottles of water. On the back of the center console is a digital display and control panel for second row occupants. Along with captain type adjustable seats they get a fold down large screen for entertainment.

Intelligent driving comes via a suite of 27 sensors which include a roof mounted Lidar unit, high definition cameras, ultrasonic radar and millimeter wavelength radar. Details are sparse on the capabilities of the system. The overall exterior design though is very much in line with the existing model.
Power comes from GWM’s Hi4 hybrid system. For the Blue Mountain this DHT-PHEV system consists of a E15BE petrol engine which is a 1.5T unit with a maximum power of 125kW. A rear mounted electric motor provides 220 kW power and 410 Nm torque while a smaller front motor provides 130 kW power and 300 Nm torque. The system combined figures are 380 kW and 933 Nm with the electric motors supporting three modes: pure electric, pure electric priority and intelligent hybrid.

Battery power comes from CATL and the Intelligent Driving Edition uses a 44.5 kWh unit. All electric range is 180 km WLTC or 215 km CLTC with a combined range of over 1200 km WLTC or 1315 km CLTC. Acceleration time is just 4.9 seconds while fuel consumption is 6.7 l/100 km.

Wey these days often uses the names of coffees for its range. Blue Mountain being an expensive type is a suitable name for this is 5156, 1980,1805 mm (l/w/h) beast with a 3050 mm wheelbase. The current Blue Mountain DHT-PHEV 4WD ultra-long range version retails for 308,800 yuan (42,650 USD) so expect some premium for this version given the upgrade in equipment levels.

On April 18, Zhidou officially launched its Rainbow mini EV. Consumers can choose from a total of five models with a price range of 31,900 – 43,900 yuan (4,400 – 6,000 USD).

2016 Zhidou D12017 Zhidou D22018 Zhidou D3
Zhidou was one of the earliest Chinese brands to enter the new energy mini-car market, with its first model launched in May 2014, which was later renamed to Zhidou D1. Subsequently, Zhidou launched the Zhidou D2 and Zhidou D3, both of which maintained a three-door and two-seater layout. However, due to various factors, Zhidou gradually faded out of the market until it announced its return in October 2023 after completing its capital strategy reorganization. Now, Geely‘s CEO, Gan Jiayue, serves as the chairman of the company.
The Zhidou Rainbow is available in seven exterior colors, namely, pink, purple, brown, yellow, cyan, green, and brown.

The size of the car measures 3224/1515/1630 mm, and the wheelbase is 2100 mm, adopting a three-door and four-seat layout.
Notable design elements include the Big Dipper headlights, carbon fiber external mirrors, Y-shaped lights, and 13-inch or 15-inch Roman shield wheel hubcaps, according to the brand.
The cockpit is cute with a pink background featuring a double-spoke steering wheel, a 5-inch full LCD instrument panel, and a 9-inch central control car screen. The knob-type physical buttons are retained under the central control screen.

Other configurations include mobile phone remote vehicle control, remote vehicle unlocking, remote car search, scheduled charging, and OTA updates. Additionally, Zhidou claims that there are more than 20 storage spaces throughout the interior. The standard trunk length is 390 mm, and the storage volume can be expanded to 1034 L by folding down the rear seats.
The entire series is powered by a 20 kW/85 Nm or 30 kW/125 Nm electric motor, paired with a lithium iron phosphate battery pack supplied by Guoxuan Hi-Tech. The battery pack is available in capacities of 9.98 kWh, 17.18 kWh, and 17.3 kWh, which correspond to a CLTC cruising range of 125 km, 205 km, and 201 km, respectively.
Furthermore, in the next three years, Zhidou plans to launch eight models, and in the next five years, launch a total of 16 models.

Last year we brought you news that Dongfeng Honda had created its own new EV brand for China with the launch of Lingxi and showed you a concept. This concept is now nearly ready for the start of sales with the unveiling due on April 19 and not only do we know what the exterior looks like but we now have pictures of the interior and we can tell you that it has five screens.

Now known as the Lingxi L the car retains the stealth fighter look of the concept with angles everywhere. Allegedly the appearance is based on the idea of a polyhedron and certainly there doesn’t seem to be a flat surface in sight. Supposedly the brand’s new Lingxi logo is inspired by a flying bird and Lingxi green is the brand’s signature color.

Size wise it measures in at 4830, 1845, and 1503 mm for the length, width and height. It is meant to ride on the Lingxi intelligent electric platform but judging from the wheelbase of just 2731 mm this seems rather short for a purposely developed EV platform. Powering the car is a single TZ200XSBT1 electric motor with a peak power of 160 kW.

Dongfeng Honda have just released pictures of the interior along with a rather strange video emphasizing the cool youthful nature of the Lingxi L. Inside the car has five screens although two of those are given over to the images from the side view cameras which have been legal in China since July last year. The other three screens seem about the same size although there is quite an awkward gap between the instrument screen and the central infotainment unit. Subsequently the gap between the infotainment unit and the passenger’s screen is only around a third as much.

More details about the car should become available at the unveiling tomorrow and the Lingxi L will most probably be also seen at next week’s Beijing Auto Show.

Editor’s note:

About a decade ago there was a rush by JVs to produce China only brands, many of which supposedly were to sell EVs. Few of these brands ever put a car on sale with Baojun and Veunucia being the only real successes. Furthermore, very few of them actually produced EVs, the rebadged Nissan Leaf as a Venucia e30 along with Denza being the only ones I can think of. We will have to watch to see if Lingxi stands to be any more successful but at least the 5 screens is a good selling point.

There is also a question mark as to how this fits in with Honda’s overall China strategy given the Ye series debut a few days ago.

It seems that everyday we’re bringing you a Haval H6 story, and today we give you the just revealed interior for the 2024 Haval H6 facelift. The car will be officially unveiled to the public next week at the Beijing Auto Show where pre-sales are expected to begin.

Official shots of the interior from Great Wall show an off-white color scheme for the interior although we have also found photographs of an all-black version. Overall the look remains fairly similar with the center console receiving the most change over the 2022 Haval H6.
Inside the 2024 Haval H6 gains chrome highlights on the steering wheel, on the door pulls and at the base of the top of the dashboard. There are two separate floating screens consisting of a smaller one for the instrument panel and a larger centrally mounted infotainment screen. There are hardly any buttons with most things controlled by the human machine interface and presumably voice control.

Official shots from Great Wall Motor
Most noticeable is the change to the center console. First off the gear selection dial is gone replaced by a stalk mounted shifter. This move opens up the center console space which is now occupied by a wireless 50W phone charging pad and two cup holders. With a floating center console it has further storage space underneath.
Seats are a perforated leather type material. Rear seats are 60:40 split folding and second row passengers get air conditioning outlets.
The all-black interior and details of the screens
Power still comes from a choice of 1.5T or 2.0T engines but details are a bit different to the 2023 Haval H6. For the 1.5 turbo unit power is now 130 kW. And in the case of the 2.0T version power has increased from 155 kW to 170 kW and fuel consumption is now 8.1 l/100 km. Both engines use a 7-speed wet dual clutch transmission.

Following soon should be a PHEV version using Great Wall’s Hi4 four wheel drive system and likely priced around 150,000 yuan (20,700 USD).
We should know more details of the Haval H6 facelift at next week’s Beijing Auto Show.
