Six terrorists killed in joint raids in Punjab

Safdar Rasheed

In a major counter-terrorism breakthrough, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Punjab successfully thwarted a devastating terror plot in Taunsa Sharif through an intelligence-based operation near the Tri-Border Village.

According to a CTD sources; the operation was launched following credible intelligence reports about the presence of armed terrorists in the area. A fierce gunbattle erupted between the terrorists and the security teams. The exchange of heavy fire continued for several hours.

As a result of the intense cross firing, five dangerous terrorists were eliminated, while five others sustained injuries and managed to escape into the nearby forest. The CTD teams acted swiftly and professionally, preventing what could have been a catastrophic attack.

The sources confirmed that the operation was launched based on precise intelligence, aiming to apprehend the terrorists planning subversive activities in the region.

However, the terrorists opened fire on the CTD team, leading to a retaliatory crossfire in which the five terrorists were neutralized.

During the combing operation, CTD recovered a cache of lethal weapons including rifles, three IEDs, a large quantity of ammunition, hand grenades, and explosive material. These recoveries underscore the severity of the threat and the scale of the planned attack.

A search operation is currently under way to trace and apprehend the wounded terrorists who fled the scene. CTD teams have established checkpoints near Romani, Taunsa, to prevent further escape and to secure the region.

The identification process of the deceased terrorists is ongoing. Four bodies have been handed over to the hospital for necessary legal formalities, while one body was taken away by fleeing accomplices, according to the CTD Punjab spokesperson.

It is pertinent to mention that CTD has been continuously operating against the terrorists attacking police posts in the tri-border area of Dera Ghazi Khan.

NNI add: Meanwhile, in a separate operation in Bahawalpur, another terrorist was killed while three of his accomplices managed to slip away during the raid. Authorities are hot on their trail and efforts to track them down are ongoing.

A CTD spokesperson said the team acted just in the nick of time and nipped a major terror plot in the bud. A large cache of bullets and hand grenades was recovered from the slain terrorist. A case has been registered, and further investigation is in full swing.

3 terrorists killed in Mastung shootout, says Balochistan CTD

Three terrorists belonging to a proscribed militant outfit were killed during an operation in Mastung district, Balochistan’s Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) said on Monday.

Pakistan has witnessed an uptick in terror activities over the past year, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, after the proscribed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) ended its ceasefire with the government in November 2022.

According to a statement by the CTD spokesperson, “All three suspects, who were killed, were linked to Daesh and were planning future acts of terror.”

Daesh refers to the banned militant Islamic State (IS) group, a globally proscribed terrorist organisation.

The CTD conducted an operation during which a “high-value Daesh suspect”, who was involved in the abduction and murder of a minor, was being taken to identify a suspected hideout in the outskirts of Mastung’s Dasht area, the statement said.

“The suspect had been under CTD custody and was involved in a brutal case of kidnapping for ransom, where the abducted minor was killed in captivity after the ransom was not paid,” it added.

“He was also linked with an operational cell of Daesh, involved in fundraising and terror facilitation across the province.”

The statement further said that armed accomplices present inside the hideout opened fire on the CTD team “in an attempt to secure the release of their associate”.

“CTD officials returned fire in self-defence, resulting in a fierce exchange. A shootout ensued [which] resulted in the killing of held suspect by his group’s fire during the chaos,” it added.

“Two armed terrorists were also neutralised on the spot.”

The statement also read that the group was also involved in “targeted killings and extortion networks, using child abductions to fund militant operations”.

The CTD recovered “a cache of weapons, explosive materials, communication devices, and extremist literature from the site”, according to the statement.

A first information report was being registered at the CTD Quetta police station, while more raids were also planned for other areas of Dasht and Spilinji “to nab the remaining members of the group”, it concluded.

Pakistan ranked second in the Global Terrorism Index 2025, with the number of deaths in terrorist attacks rising by 45 per cent over the past year to 1,081.

3 ‘key’ TTP terrorists killed in joint operation by Swat CTD, police

Fazal Khaliq | Zahid Imdad
July 26, 2025

Three wanted terrorists and “key operatives” of the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) were killed during a joint operation of the police and the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in the Barikot tehsil of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Swat district on Friday.

Over the past few months, multiple areas of KP — particularly Bannu, Lakki Marwat and Bajaur — have seen a series of attacks targeting police stations and posts. In response, the state has also intensified its counterterrorism operations.

“Three wanted terrorists have been killed in Barikot in a major win for Swat CTD. Eliminating the enemies of regional peace, the CTD has killed three important operatives of the Fitna al-Khawarij,” KP Police said in a statement today.

Fitna al-Khawarij is a term the state uses to refer to the banned TTP.

Among the terrorists was Ajmal, also known as Waqas, a resident of Malook Abad who was reportedly involved in at least nine terrorism-related cases. He was also involved in the killing of Village Defence Council members and carried a bounty of Rs2 million.

The second individual was identified as Matiullah, also known by the aliases Ishaq and Junaid, son of Ibrat Shah from Dabb Sar Martung in Shangla district, who was wanted in two terrorism cases.

The third slain terrorist was Rahimullah Rehmani, alias Rohullah, son of Amanullah, a resident of Sheray in Afghanistan’s Nuristan province. He, too, was wanted in two separate terrorism cases.

“The terrorists were involved in attacks on security forces and assassinations of police personnel,” said the KP police statement. “A network spreading terrorism with external funding was destroyed, and the terrorists were also wanted in improvised explosive device (IED) attacks and extortion cases.”

“This CTD operation is a blow to the operational wings of Fitna al-Khawarij in Swat and adjacent areas,” Malakand Regional Police Officer (RPO) Sher Akbar Khan was quoted as saying. “We are determined to uproot Fitna al-Khawarij.”

Speaking to reporters, Swat District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Umar Khan said that search and strike operations against militants would continue across the district. He added that security has been intensified at all entry and exit points of Swat to prevent any possible infiltration of miscreants.

“We will not allow the peace and stability of Swat to be disturbed at any cost,” the DPO asserted.

KP Inspector General Zulfiqar Hameed praised the regional police and Swat CTD for striking the “operational command wing” of Fitna al-Khawarij, according to the police statement.

“Operations against terrorists will be further intensified to establish lasting peace and order in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” he said.

Pakistan has witnessed a surge in terrorist activities, especially in KP and Balochistan, after the TTP ended its ceasefire with the government in November 2022. Attacks have predominantly targeted the police, law enforcement agencies’ personnel, and security forces.

In a series of incidents in KP yesterday, a police official was martyred in the Karak district while police thwarted a separate late-night terrorist assault on a police station in Bannu’s Basyakhel area.

Earlier this month, three suspected terrorists belonging to the TTP’s Tipu Gul group were killed in a joint operation by the CTD and the police in Lakki Marwat. This came nearly a week after the leader of a peace committee and two of his companions were shot dead by terrorists in the same district.

Three terrorists were also killed in Lakki Marwat’s Kot Kashmir area during a gun battle with the police and local peace committee, in which a cop was martyred as well.

A total of 670 terror incidents were recorded in 2024, while 212 militants were killed in counter-terrorism operations, according to a report issued by the CTD.

August 5, 2025

DERA GHAZI KHAN: A wanted terrorist linked with the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Bilal Khosa alias Basheer, was killed in a late-night `encounter’ near Chak Ladan, within the jurisdiction of Kala police station.

The incident occurred at 12:55am [Sunday night] when armed suspects hiding in bushes opened indiscriminate fire on a police patrol vehicle.

Police responded with strategic counter fire, resulting in the death of one assailant, later identified as Bilal Khosa.

His accomplices managed to flee, and a search operation is currently underway.

Khosa was wanted in several high-profile cases, including attempted murder, robbery, terrorism, and double homicide. He had also been nominated in two FIRs registered by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in Dera Ghazi Khan: FIR No. 07/25: Sections 324, 353, 148, 149, 440, 427 PPC; 3/4 Explosives Act; 7 ATA 1997 and FIR No. 10/25: Sections 302, 324, 353, 148, 149, 440, 427 PPC; 3/4 Explosives Act; 7 ATA 1997.

Intelligence sources confirmed his direct involvement in the plotting and execution of targeted attacks on police and intelligence personnel.

In 2021, following the deaths of his brother and a close relative in police encounters, Khosa joined TTP and escalated his militant activities.

August 8, 2025

Two terrorists planning to attack the police in Punjab’s Mianwali district were killed during an operation, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) said on Friday.

The CTD regularly carries out operations across the province to prevent and investigate terrorism-related activities and gather intelligence. Operating under the provincial police department, the Punjab CTD plays a key role in maintaining internal security and countering terrorism within the country.

In a statement today, the law enforcement agency said, “Punjab CTD killed two terrorists during an operation near Kundian in Mianwali.”

It said that the CTD acted on a tip-off after receiving intelligence that the terrorists were planning to attack police and other institutions.

“During the operation, the CTD and terrorists engaged in an exchange of fire, as a result of which two terrorists were killed by their own accomplices, while six of them managed to escape.”

According to the statement, the CTD recovered “explosive materials, two rifles, hand grenades and bullets” from the terrorists.

“The terrorists had completed their plans to target the police and other institutions,” it said.

The CTD spokesperson said that the process of identifying the two terrorists was underway, while a search operation was launched to arrest the terrorists who escaped.

Punjab CTD was “diligently pursuing its goal of a safe Punjab and is committed to uprooting the menace of terrorism”, the statement added.

Pakistan has witnessed an uptick in terror activities over the past year, especially in KP and Balochistan, after the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan ended its ceasefire with the government in November 2022.

The country ranked second in the Global Terrorism Index 2025, with the number of deaths in terrorist attacks rising by 45 per cent over the past year to 1,081.

Last month, Punjab CTD killed five terrorists and successfully thwarted a terror plot in Taunsa Sharif in a “major counter-terrorism breakthrough”.

In April, the law enforcement agency foiled major attacks by arresting 10 terrorists belonging to banned organisations during 189 operations in different areas of Punjab.
