China iPhone Sales Continue to Slide as Consumers Fly the Flag

Sales of foreign-branded smartphones in China fell in August, while overall handset sales in the country increased 27%

Sales of Apple iPhones and other foreign-branded handsets in China slipped 12.7% last month, year-on-year, as consumers made increasingly patriotic choices amid ongoing trade tensions between Beijing and Washington.

Calculations based on the data from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) showed that during the month, sales of foreign-branded phones in China fell to 1.87 million handsets, down from 2.142 million a year earlier.

Overall phone sales in China increased 26.7% from a year earlier to 24.05 million handsets in August, the CAICT data showed.

Last week, it was revealed pre-orders for Huawei’s Mate XT had surpassed 6.5 million – almost double the roughly 3.9 million foldable smartphones shipped worldwide in the second quarter of this year, according to consultancy IDC.

Interest in the Mate XT had led to some versions of the phone going for prices as high as over $20,000.

Meanwhile, Apple’s sales in China have dwindled, even as the firm has offered rare discounts. In the second-quarter of the year, the US phone-maker dropped from third to sixth place in the Chinese market.

Most of Western phones are now susceptible

a) Rigged OS
b) Rigged search engines
c) Rigged OS /updates
d) Backdoor Malware
e) Blue tooth being used to collect location details
f) Wifi (Direct wifi actively seeking data points in homes)

Western firms are actively rigging bluetooth/Wifi to constantly become survailance bacons - collecting Data on behalf of corporations

The Paranoia in Western Tech have reached this far that they now even track what TV channel you watch (eg Al Jazeerah News App)

Looking forward for China to release a reliable OS for Laptop and Phones

The recent drama done by Israel has further reduced consumer trust in Western Electronics

Harmonyos is out now the real catch is getting other phone makers on board and foreign apps to be in its ecosystem.imagine the US banning tiktok app from Google Android then they decide to join harmonyos now that's a way to market your product.

Consumer Electronics are world driven by Consumer demand
The carriers are servants for the will of consumer

Why would any person want to carry a Surveillance device from Western World 24/7?

Why would anyone would want to Buy a TV which tracks shows you watch or what APPs you watch (Al Jazeerah etc)

Western Corps have been actively curbing freedoms on Internet since year 2005

China is trying to break duo monopoly from Europe and the United states.

Exploding western devices will move the dial even more i reckon - next set of results over next 3-6months would be interesting.

Chinese phones are quite elegant and very easy on eyes

Most buyer of American car (with American tech) in middle east were Arabs

GMC was/is a big brand in middle east
Similarly the phone tech

With recent shift in consumer buying , it will no doubt impact the electronics and auto sector

- The global smartphone market grew by 8% YoY to reach 289 million unit shipments in Q2 2024, owing to better consumer demand in Caribbean and Latin America and Europe regions.

- Samsung retained the top position globally, accounting for 19% shipment share, driven by Galaxy A-series.

- Apple’s shipments registered marginal growth in Q2 2024. Muted demand in North America markets and stiff competition in China were some of the reasons for this marginal growth.

- Among the top five OEMs, Xiaomi grew the fastest, registering 27% YoY shipment growth, posting strong performance in China, India and other emerging markets.
