In honor of General Asif Nawaz Janjua (1937-1993) was a widely respected Pakistani military leader known for his honesty, loyalty and principled character. Commissioned in 1956, he rose through the ranks due to his professionalism, discipline and deep commitment to national service.
In 1991, he was appointed the Chief of Army Staff (COAS). During his tenure, he worked to strengthen merit, reduce political interference, and reinforce the army professional standards.
A well-known account from this period highlights his personal integrity: after becoming COAS, he was reportedly offered a luxury car, which he politely refused, believing that public office should not be used for personal benefit. This incident further cemented his reputation as a leader who upheld principles over privileges.
General Asif Nawaz Janjua passed away in 1993. Though his term was brief, he is remembered as an upright, honest, and patriotic soldier whose character left a lasting impact on the Pakistan Army.
May Allah Almighty bless his soul with Janat al-Firdaus and grant him abundant rewards. Aameen.
