Indonesia’s stress on a modern interpretation of the Islamic faith is also drawing global attention.

In a world where religion and faith-based politics are gaining ground, what happens in Indonesia, the world’s largest nation of Muslims, is critical. The sprawling archipelagic nation has more than 200 million Muslims, most of whom live peaceably with minority Hindus, Catholics and Protestants, and a smattering of other denominations.

Indonesians broadly follow their nation’s founding philosophy of Pancasila – five principles which include a tolerance for other faiths given the belief in one God, and a just and civilised humanity.

Jakarta. Indonesia is preparing alternatives to Galang Island for the country’s plan to temporarily shelter thousands of injured Gazans for medical care, according to Foreign Minister Sugiono on Thursday.

Earlier that day, President Prabowo Subianto’s spokesman Hasan Nasbi unveiled the government's plan to bring in as many as 2,000 wounded Gazans, including their family members, for medical treatment. Hasan revealed that Indonesia would turn the Galang Island -- which lies in the Riau Islands’ province -- into a medical facility. The island has hosted Covid-19 patients and Vietnamese refugees in the past.

Galang Island previously handle around 250,000 Vietnamese refugeres. It is a large island with adequate facilities, including housing, health facilities, and educations (schools)

Jakarta. Police in the Indonesian capital have arrested more than 1,200 people following a week of violent protests marked by looting and vandalism, Jakarta Police Chief Inspector General Asep Edi Suheri said on Monday.

“As of today, the Jakarta Metropolitan Police have arrested around 1,240 people since the unrest began,” Asep told reporters after meeting Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung and military officials at City Hall.

He said the detainees included individuals from neighboring provinces such as West Java and Banten, suspected of destroying public facilities, looting, and other violent acts. Peaceful demonstrators, however, were not targeted.

“The president, the national police chief, and the military commander instructed us to act firmly against all acts of anarchy and damage to public facilities. Peaceful protests remain welcome,” Asep said, expressing hope that Jakarta would soon return to calm.

Police are also investigating the looting of homes belonging to four members of parliament and Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati over the weekend. “We have identified suspects and will make arrests soon,” Asep added.

Financial Losses
Governor Pramono said the damage to public facilities in Jakarta alone amounted to Rp 55 billion ($3.3 million). This included Rp 3.3 billion in losses for the Jakarta MRT, about Rp 41.6 billion for the TransJakarta bus network, and Rp 5.5 billion for CCTV and other public infrastructure.

In total, 22 TransJakarta bus shelters were damaged, six of which were completely burned. Cleanup began on Saturday, and repairs are expected to be completed by September 9, Pramono said.

He added that more than 700 civilians were injured during the week of unrest in the capital.

Separately, National Police spokesman Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko said the situation in Jakarta and other affected regions had “largely returned to normal.” Joint patrols by police and the military have been deployed nationwide to reinforce security and public order.

“Many people have resumed their daily routines. Society can already feel that order is being restored,” Trunoyudo said, urging the public to rely on credible media for information and avoid disinformation that could spark panic.

Two factors that lead to calm according to me, beside the help of Allah

1. Muslim leaders lead by NU and Muhammadiyah meeting with Prabowo on Saturday night and supported the government
2. Deployment of Armed Force

POLITICS

Sixteen Islamic mass organizations (ormas), including Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) and Muhammadiyah, have declared their support for President Prabowo Subianto. They agreed to jointly call on the public to remain calm and face the nation’s challenges together.

Saturday, August 30, 2025 – 20:29

Sixteen of Indonesia’s most prominent Islamic organizations, including NU and Muhammadiyah, have pledged their commitment to support President Prabowo Subianto. They agreed to work hand-in-hand in urging the public to remain composed amid ongoing national dynamics.

The significant meeting was held at President Prabowo’s private residence in Hambalang, Bogor Regency, West Java, on Saturday. This intensive dialogue aimed to address the problems and challenges the nation has faced in recent times.

During the three-hour discussion, the chairmen and secretaries-general of the 16 Islamic organizations exchanged views. Together, they sought solutions to maintain national stability and unity under President Prabowo’s leadership.

Synergy of Islamic Organizations and Government for National Stability

The meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and representatives of Islamic organizations marked an important step in efforts to safeguard national stability. This heart-to-heart dialogue enabled a comprehensive understanding of the country’s problems.

Chairman of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU), Yahya Cholil Staquf—commonly known as Gus Yahya—stressed the shared commitment. He said the Islamic organizations would strive to manage the situation and encourage the public to remain calm.

Gus Yahya also expressed confidence that President Prabowo’s administration, supported by religious leaders, would be able to face various challenges. This synergy is expected to bring positive impacts for peace and national progress.

The presence of several cabinet ministers, the Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), and the head of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) at the meeting underscored the government’s seriousness. This collaboration is expected to strengthen joint efforts in addressing critical issues that demand serious attention.

Commitment to Safeguard National Unity and Integrity

At the same occasion, Chairman of Muhammadiyah, Prof. Haedar Nashir, stated that each organization had given valuable input to President Prabowo. These inputs reflect diverse perspectives but share a common purpose.

Haedar Nashir emphasized that Islamic organizations have a long history in Indonesia’s independence struggle and its post-independence development. Therefore, safeguarding unity, integrity, and the nation’s future is a collective responsibility to be carried out with full awareness.

The 16 Islamic organizations strongly believe that all Indonesians can exercise democracy responsibly and with proper conduct. They called for constructive participation in every democratic process.

Prof. Haedar Nashir also reminded the public to remain vigilant against acts that could damage democracy, such as violence. Actions that could undermine Indonesia’s unity and cohesion must be avoided for the common good.

Continued Dialogue for the Nation’s Future

Gus Yahya announced that the Hambalang meeting would be followed by another dialogue at the State Palace in Jakarta. This follow-up meeting will also involve representatives of various Islamic mass organizations.

This planned continuation is expected to produce more concrete commitments and agreements. These will serve as the foundation for synergy between President Prabowo Subianto and Islamic organizations as representatives of Indonesian Muslims.

The initiative for continued dialogue reflects a serious commitment from both sides to keep collaborating. The goal is to find the best solutions for the country’s challenges and ensure a brighter future.

The Hambalang meeting was attended by several key figures, including:

  • Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin
  • Head of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) M. Herindra
  • Speaker of the MPR Ahmad Muzani
  • State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi
  • Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya

Many foreigners I believe not yet know that Indonesian first Armed Force General, General Soedirman, is Muhammadiyah activist before leading Indonesian Armed Force to go against the combine troops of Dutch, British, and British Indian that previously won WW2

He lead Indonesian Armed Force from 1945-until 1949 that, with the help of Allah SWT, eventually Dutch is surrender in 1949. Complete the period of revolution, he lead the armed force movement that is critical during negotiation phase that lead by civilian government (Muhammad Hatta, Soetan Sjahrir). He died as soon as Dutch surrender due to sickness he has already suffered during military operation, this is why he is always carried by litter by his troops.

Muhammadiyah (Arabic: محمدية, romanized: Muḥammadiyyah, lit. followers of Muhammad), officially known as the Muhammadiyah Society (Indonesian: Persyarikatan Muhammadiyah), is one of the largest Islamic non-governmental organizations in Indonesia.

Founded in 1912 by Ahmad Dahlan in Yogyakarta, Muhammadiyah began as a reformist socio-religious movement, advocating ijtihad (individual interpretation of the Qur’an and Sunnah) rather than taqlid (blind conformity to traditional interpretations by the ulama).

Since its establishment, Muhammadiyah has pursued a reformist platform that combines both religious and secular education. Its goals include:

  • Promoting upward mobility of Muslims toward a modern society.
  • Purifying Indonesian Islam from syncretic practices while still respecting local culture.
  • Supporting religious tolerance in Indonesia.

Notably, some of Muhammadiyah’s higher education institutions in East Nusa Tenggara and Papua are attended mostly by non-Muslims.

The organization also runs a large network of charity hospitals and, by the late 1990s, operated 128 universities across Indonesia.

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —

Baleg DPR evaluated the 2025 Priority Prolegnas list in a working meeting attended by Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas on Tuesday (Sept 9).

Baleg Chairman Bob Hasan stated that three Draft Laws (Rancangan Undang-Undang, abbreviated as RUU) had been proposed for inclusion in the 2025 Priority Prolegnas, one of which is the RUU Perampasan Aset (Asset Confiscation Bill).

He mentioned that the RUU Perampasan Aset will be listed alongside two other RUUs, namely the RUU on the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the RUU on Industrial Zones.

“In response to the proposals, three RUUs were put forward for inclusion in the second amendment to the 2025 Priority Prolegnas, namely: the RUU on Asset Confiscation, the RUU on the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the RUU on Industrial Zones,” Bob said during the meeting.

Bob emphasized that the RUU Perampasan Aset will be initiated by DPR itself, ensuring there will be no further debate over whether the bill falls under the responsibility of DPR or the government.

“So, regarding asset confiscation, there will be no more debate within the government or elsewhere. It will be handled by DPR, and it is set to be included in 2025,” he said.

Meanwhile, Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas, representing the government, approved the inclusion of the RUU Perampasan Aset in the 2025 Priority Prolegnas as a DPR initiative.

Supratman said the government would begin assisting in drafting the bill, including preparing its academic paper.

“So regarding the RUU on Asset Confiscation, thank you, because the government was actually already prepared. Today, we must give great appreciation to DPR for fulfilling its promise to take over the drafting of the RUU on Asset Confiscation,” he said.

“Later, the academic paper and the draft bill materials can be shared between us,” he added.

In addition to the three RUUs proposed for the 2025 Priority Prolegnas, Baleg also received several other draft laws for inclusion in the 2025–2029 medium-term Prolegnas. The list includes:

  1. RUU on Industrial Zones
  2. RUU on the Chamber of Commerce and Industry
  3. RUU on Online Transportation
  4. RUU on Patriot Bond
  5. RUU on the Indonesian National Police
  6. RUU on Amendments to the Personal Data Protection Law
  7. RUU on One Data Indonesia
  8. RUU on Freelance Workers in Indonesia
  9. RUU on Platform Workers in Indonesia
  10. RUU on Regional-Owned Enterprises (BUMD)

Jakarta. House of Representatives (DPR)Speaker Puan Maharani convened a closed-door meeting with parliamentary faction leaders on Thursday to discuss what she described as a “major transformation” of the legislature, following days of student-led protests demanding accountability and reform.

The meeting, held at the DPR leadership room in Jakarta’s Senayan parliamentary complex, was attended by Deputy Speakers Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal, and Saan Mustopa, along with all faction leaders.

Among the decisions reached, lawmakers agreed to scrap a controversial monthly housing allowance of Rp 50 million ($3,100) for members. Parliament also lifted a moratorium on working visits by members and commissions, a step seen as part of efforts to increase engagement with constituents.

“In principle, we in parliament will continue to improve ourselves. The aspirations of the people will serve as constructive input,” Puan said.

She stressed that she would personally lead the institutional reform process within parliament to align with public expectations. “I will take charge of the DPR’s reform,” she declared.

The move comes a day after parliament received a delegation of 16 student representatives who pressed lawmakers to take responsibility amid nationwide protests, including rallies outside the Senayan complex in Jakarta.

The protests began last Thursday when thousands of students and residents gathered at the House of Representatives (DPR) complex in Jakarta, rallying against lawmakers’ generous perks amid worsening economic hardships. The demonstrations stretched into the night and turned deadly when ride-hailing driver Affan Kurniawan was killed after being run over by a Police Mobile Brigade (Brimob) armored vehicle in Central Jakarta. His death has ignited nationwide outrage, fueling demands for police accountability and an end to excessive force.

By Friday, the unrest had escalated, spilling into nearby neighborhoods with sporadic looting and clashes. Anger has been particularly directed at parliament members, whom protesters accuse of living lavishly while ordinary Indonesians struggle with rising costs of living.

After that violent protest, Prabowo changes its security minister. It is one of President men, unlike previous one, Budi Gunawan, that has linked to PDI-P (outside government).

Nusantara will be political capital starting from 2028 inshaAllah. With this move, the country will likely become more stable politically

Look like recent violent demonstration in Jakarta push Nusantara, located in new built city in East Kalimantan Island, become real political center in Indonesia in which some, before this latest announcement from President office, still sceptical it would have happened under new administration who dont initiate the move.
