Yes, the same history books the American high command was reading about China lol.
The Chinese took the WHOLE of North Korea from the combined forces of almost the whole world lead by the USA. They would have eventually taken Seoul.
The Chinese have used the push-pull tactic several times during many of their wars and it always works.
The Chinese would be in a battle and begin to pull back, the enemy would start thinking they are being defeated, they move in forward and fall into trap where China beats the crap out of them from a better position causing severe losses and pushes them back, then pulls back again. The enemy thinks it was China's last do-or-die stance and that is why China pulled back even though the tide was on their side. The enemies try again and after a few battles they get pushed back more and more.
That is how China took all of North Korea. They would have eventually taken Seoul and then the rest of the South if the war had kept going on.
The USSR convinced China to sign the ceasefire otherwise there would have been no South Korea today.
