J-31 to be inducted soon| Pilot training reportedly in progress

Two third of America F-35s cant fly!

Interesting conversation.

Pakistan is clearly going for J31, what options India got? If this is the current state of America own fleet, and thats the big if America allows India into F35 program, at what timeline would they be able to get them anyway! I dont really see any other options available to India and no there will be no so called "indigenous program" considering how Tejas went.

But the J-35 we're talking about will have foldable wings?
That has never been an issue, neither has an arrestor hook. I'm talking about the F18. On the other hand, the PAF version could come with fixed wings and no arrestor hook.

If you have actually seen our current HAS, you will note that a J31/35 might be too big for it, with folding wings it might be an actual advantage? Meaning it wouldn't be limited to just one base, where it has its own custom built HAS, but can be rotated, as and where needed.

J31 will just invite j35
No point for Pakistan to acquire it

Use that money to pay off the circular debt 😂

What has one country's (Pakistan) debt got to do with another country's (Faougistan) finances?

For our fan-boys to entertain and NO, these are NOT taken in Pakistan, these are just images of J-35 and they are allegedly two years old showing no. 350003 (now renumbered to 3503)

J-35 allegedly 350003 now 3503 older - Captain小潇 - 2+.jpgJ-35 allegedly 350003 now 3503 older - Captain小潇 - 1+.jpg

@Deino, I've gleaned the following from the internet (including The War Zone). Not sure how accurate it is. What are your thoughts? Any info you can provide?

May I ask for the full link? In fact - at least on what we know - it is total BS and mostly based on "we take any unreasonable rumour posted somewhere out there" for granted, mix a bit the designations FC-31/J-31 and J-35 since it sounds cool and looks even more impressive!

Will take a deeper look a bit later and correct it.

No single link just different forums, articles, blogs, social media, etc.

Just trying to make sense of what has been actually spotted vs what maybe in the works.

Ah, so this table is a summary made by you? ... nicely done and maybe - hopefully - it could indeed explain some misunderstandings!

This is what I rate wrong in your chart:

Thank you for the input.

What do you think the Pakistan Air Chief meant when he stated earlier in the year that,

"The foundation for acquiring the J-31 stealth fighter aircraft has already been laid, which is all set to become part of the [Pakistan air force’s] fleet in the near future." Flight Global

Vs what China's Global Times reported:

"Pakistan recently announced a plan to procure FC-31 stealth fighter jets from China, a move experts said will not only significantly enhance the Pakistan Air Force's capabilities, but also open up the international market for the Chinese aircraft, marking a win-win cooperation."

Is the FC-31 going to be renamed as the J-31 if and when it rolls off the production lines?

On the other hand, I am assuming the Air Chief wouldn't have made such an announcement if J-31 didn't alrrady exist?

I think - and in fact I don't blame anyone for this - it is to the more or less uninformed public the same if this type is called J-31 or FC-31. Technically correct is surely to differ between both and even more to know that there are three distinct different types around: The FC-31 demonstrators, the J-35 prototypes and the J-31 concept!

As such, they are just ill-informed and use both designations for the same future fighter. However to conclude since a political mixes both terms, there would be already one flying and it could enter service soon, is false and simply ridiculous.

What designation that type will have in future, actually I don't know since it depends on if the PLAAF will itself acquire it too: If the PLAAF will get it too as the J-31, then I expect it to be named J-31E. If the PLAAF won't purchase it, than it could in fact be named in any terms, either just J-31, or even FC-31 again or a totally new name.

That explains it nicely:

FC-31: Demonstrator
J-35: Prototype
J-31: Concept

Until we get some more confirmation(s) from the PAF, I'll assume J-31 is in PAF's wish list only for now like KAAN.

Nobody's really provided any valuable reason why Pakistan requires a fifth generation fighter within the next 3-6 years when India is not rushing to acquire one.

My own personal theory would be a fifth generation fighter before 2030 will only enter Pakistan if China had such a need for the platform to operate it from Pakistani bases.

Ah,the aircraft our government is so obsessed with buying and spending 3,7 billion Euros for 20 of them.

Well done New Democracy government!
