Tareen opened up import flood gates on borrowed dollars by lowering taxes. Imran Khan reducing petrol/electricity price just as Russia entered war with Ukraine that fucked up world economy.

See what India did despite having many times more foreign reserves, they kept selling petrol 2x or 3x the price of Pakistan. Collecting taxes and not wasting $$ on imports.

IK did not stop corruption, especially in CPEC and Punjab. His policy of spending money on (own) image building such as trying to start a TV channel along with Turkey and Indonesia, billion tree tsunami at a time when the country was debt-ridden was wasteful expenditure.

The only reason he survived 3.5 years was because COVID stopped economic activity reducing energy prices and moratorium on loans was provided by all lenders. He more than doubled external debt with no plan of paying back. IK was hoping for a miracle like discovery of oil and gold, whih might be due to superstition. Superstition is not a sound economic policy. By the time Khan realised that there was no oil or gold which would suddenly turn Pakistan into a rich nation, he panicked and from then aap thoda ghabra sakte hai.

Economics is about numbers, not emotions. Everyone wants to help the poor, but the numbers must allow that. I want to buy a private jet, but my budget numbers don't allow that.

In the current economic situation, govt spending on healthcare needs to be reduced to bare minimum. Expenditure into education, health, infra, water, sanitation all need to curtailed to bare minimums because if the economy collapses things will be much much worse.
