PA Options against Indian Armour - ATGMs on MANPADS & Attack Gunship Helicopter - News & Discussions

india using tanks against Pakistan is a bad idea ... they dont have ejection seats :)

looks like they might be cooked in combat.
You are quite right to make this observation. As a representative of a country that has mastered tank warfare, suggesting useful innovations is just what the entire world has come to expect from you. The constant and inevitable victories outside armoured actions is merely an additional bonus, and can only lead to more creations. You have two Field Marshals in your military history already, both Gods of war and masters of battle.

Indian army is not crossing the border any time soon and there are big questions over the tank itself. It has not been an effective weapon in a war since Iraq 2003.

The tank will be effective until there is something else that can fill it's role more effectively.

your ignorance legendary.. then again you are an indian

Pakistan has invested heavily in anti tank warefare.. it doesnt believe tank warfare. They even told that to the Shah of iran when he toyed with the idea of a joint tank project with Pakistan

Not that he needs me to stand up for him, but I can assure you that Joe knows what he’s talking about.

The Indian tank Arsenal and their Man-portable anti-tank Arsenal is significantly bigger than Pakistans. Pakistan does have significantly newer and better MBTs at the top end, but as a whole but PA has been very late to the induction of modern ATGMs and Gunships - we are playing catch up.

That’s false - American Abrams were a big reason they did so well in the theatre in the gulf war and in Iraq. They were up against obsolete armor, the comparison is not fair. Russia-Ukraine is a horrible example too, neither side has shown competency in the use of tanks and combined arms warfare.

India-Pakistan is literally the perfect terrain for the tank to be used and for it to be relevant. How else would either side push across vast open plains and deserts to take land? Both sides have spent a lot of time and money into tank-doctrine. The tank remains as relevant as ever, especially in this theatre. The Haider MBT is one of the biggest investments of the PA post 2020, they clearly understand the need for the tank.

A Rough estimate is 2100 MBTs (Haider, AK-1, AK, UD, Type 85 and AZ) Excluding Active Type 59s/69s and Reserve Type 59/69s.

The IA fields roughly 3300 MBTs (T90S, T72 CIA, T72, Arjuns) excluding T72s in reserve.

Both sides have in excess of 400 more planned/On order.

really?

if you cant achieve local air superiority you are going anywhere

the anti tank ware is prime example how armored formations have huge limitations.

There isnt much indian armor can do against Pakistan.

Haiders are now our top tier tank

Are AK1 or AK2s still being made or pursued, or is it just Haiders now?

@Lion

Wouldn't tanks be sitting ducks for drones and all kinds of ground attack missiles, including dedicated anti tank ones?

doesnt matter...

the Ukraine war showed these are nothing more than magnets for drones and anti tank system. in the modern battlefield the tank has limited use... in fact Russian soldiers were using motor cycles to get around the battle field instead of armoured vehicles
