My younger brother was on F-7 when they retired from 2 sqn. He went to PG, then JF-17 and further to F-16. Then he was selected for J-10 and went to China. Whereas I have only done F-7 OCU. 😅
That's pretty cool! What's his take on F-16 vs J-10CE interms of flight characteristics?

What's the AA missile available then, from China, which is for 300-400km range kills of fighter sized targets?
I think I have to retract what I have said, PL-17 can definitely target fighter jets unlike previous speculation, and it has further range when the target is AWEC,tanker...
This guy also mentioned beside PL-16, there is a new gen Scramjet AAM and another ultra long range AAM after PL-17.

For J-10s in China, PAF pilots are doing flying training or also tactics from PLAAF?

How was your brother's experience in China in terms of learning, engagements etc.?

Nope, it was focused on platform only but he participated in Shaheen exercise afterwards for tactics development.
Chinese are far ahead in R&D but they have learned a lot from us regarding employment, especially Western doctrine. PAF has the advantage of doing exercises with NATO and non-NATO countries.

Bhai, aap itnay naa laiq thay ?
Well, comparison to your brother, not me.

I appeared for PAF ISSB in 1990 .
Applied for CAE , but at issb , some of us were recommended for both GDP and CAE .

Went to masroor base Karachi for CMB .
Got recommended for both CAE and GDP.

Ended up getting rejected for both at AHQ . Never joined PAF 😅😅

I wasn't in school back then 😅 another naa laiqi on my part. 🤣

J-10C has better TWR but F-16's lower wing loading makes up for it to some extent.

Wasn't able to understand what exactly this means, so took help from AI. Posting the response for others like me :)

This statement describes a trade-off in dogfighting performance between the J-10C and F-16, specifically balancing engine power against aerodynamic efficiency.
1. J-10C’s Better Thrust-to-Weight Ratio (TWR)
  • What it means: The J-10C (especially with the WS-10B engine) has more "raw power" relative to its weight than the F-16.
  • The Advantage: This gives the J-10C superior acceleration and climb rates. It can "power through" high-G turns and regain energy (speed) faster after performing sharp maneuvers.
2. F-16’s Lower Wing Loading
  • What it means: Wing loading is the aircraft's weight divided by its wing area. A lower value means the aircraft has "more wing" to support its weight.
  • The Advantage: Lower wing loading generally allows for better sustained turn rates. The F-16 can maintain a tight turn for longer without losing as much altitude or speed, as its wings generate lift more efficiently.
3. How it "Makes Up for It"
  • The Balancing Act: Even if the F-16 has less engine thrust (lower TWR), its efficient wings allow it to stay agile in a horizontal "turning fight".
  • In Combat: While the J-10C might be able to zoom upward or accelerate out of a jam more quickly, the F-16 can often out-turn it in a sustained circle, using its aerodynamic design to compensate for its slightly lower engine power.
Summary Table

Thrust-to-Weight (TWR)J-10CBetter vertical climbs and faster recovery of lost speed.
Wing LoadingF-16Tighter sustained turns and better lift efficiency at high Gs.

this would be unheard of...globally, forget for fighter jets, but for any aircraft! Put me onto whatever maintenance you're doing, i should be sending my planes there also.
PAF has had 37 F-16s flying for a parade at one point.

And I myself have been part of and witnessed all 21 F-16s ready for two squadrons (not PAF) that I was attached to as a FTE some time ago. While there, saw US Marines launching all of their 14 AV-8Bs from their forward deployed squadron.

There are a lot things that maybe unheard of, but this isn't anything new.
