Pakistani GDP is now $800 Billion (Formal +Informal) as per ILO, SMEDA joint study

This inflated number is not supported by Pakistan dismal export and currency reserves numbers.

No one pays taxes

The government is cash strapped, but segments of the population are doing fine

The opposition is not even 0.5% of the problem here.
i wasnt talking about the present but more about the history ... over the years its now accumulated in the brains of people to not pay taxes!

Not the right people and in the right amounts. The wrong people are being over taxed or only being taxed at the rate everyone, earning above a certain amount, should be doing.

Yep, the government is trying to fix the taxation issue by taxing the consumer, many of whom are poor average man

Problem is we need a effective strategy to bring in businesses, individuals into the tax system
Including periods of grace
Tax incentives
Etc etc

A state needs a effective tax system to run a country

As a country we don't pay taxes and then complain about everything taxes are supposed to cover

That is what companies and SBP are trying to do with Raast and Jazzcash etc., but problem is, the process of creating a bank account in Pakistan is so cumbresome, no small retailer wants to create one.

And then there is the obvious financial illiteracy. Alot of voodoo everywhere, hakoomat paisay kha jaye gi, banks steal money, bla bla bla. And then the interest argument (although that can be managed by giving everything a cloak of Islamic banking on the front).
Why it's so complicated ?

I really don't understand what the excuse is to not get registered and pay taxes and everything. ...
Apparently it's too expensive and lengthy to register business Pakistan.

... Long term dekhna to hamaray liay haram hai.
Pakistanis only believe in a 3.5 year term. It has become a strong tradition.

That's just consolidation of wealth in fewer hands, middle and lower classes keep getting poorer by the day.

That would never happen as the ruling class particularly the jamedar regime's illicit income will be directly impacted. The only way to bring them under the tax net will be through kinetic means.

You pay taxes, the government makes things better for you, you get cheaper electricity, the other BS add on taxes reduce, surcharges are removed, you get proper working conditions for your labor, make a better product, sell it for a higher price, pay a higher wage to your employee, earn more money, and the whole country gets an uplift.

Long term dekhna to hamaray liay haram hai.

There is no fair system to implement, no will, no mechanism.
E.g. There is electricity theft, those stealing won't be dealt with as a reward, but rather the one's who are paying fairly would be punished with different charges.
Another e.g. hundreds of billions worth of tax can be collected if smuggling controlled, but why go after the big fish? They are untouchables.
The nationalization policy ruined our economy and then the scare tactics to local investors, everyone tries to escape this country or move savings outside Pakistan, and govt. only interested in foreign investors as they bring dollars to pay off debts.
The Govt has zero credibility, there isn't even 0.1% trust, people aren't managing there affairs due to govt. but rather inspite of them.

In realty whoever once registers and obtains NTN, gets constantly bugged and threatened by the government. Government doesn't pay return on income taxes on time and hold billions of rupees of businesses and individuals. There needs to be across the board reset regarding tax laws in Pakistan, tax enforcement and government's conduct regarding refund of taxes.

And this is part of the problem,, they even try to hide their money in other states rather then have it accounted for and enter the tax system..as a result the country simply doesn't get enough tax, so it doesn't have enough to spend on the country and people

Don't get me wrong, overall we are still a poor country, no different to India and a bunch of other poor countries..

But stats only don't reflect the reality of Pakistan

I wouldn't completely trust those numbers. As for why they don't register and pay, in Pakistan, history is an indicator of the future. Currently, as a country, there is not a strong social contract between the state and the citizens due to lack of trust.
Oh yaar US day multimillionaire doing da same thing! Saara paisa mulak say bahar no? Tens of millions of dollars aur buss naam nehad de humreeki? Many humreeka multimillionaire now canceling their US citizenship if getting taxed beyond a reasonable limit. Araam say ja k live in da far east or EU or Caribbean islands….utthay tax less dan half no?

Mainnay to tax nahi dena ab…..thinking bout canceling my chutiya US citizenship.

Lhun** tay charrhay US and its citizenship…..😝
