DHAKA: Armed pirates on Tuesday hijacked a Bangladesh-flagged cargo vessel in the Indian Ocean and held hostage all the 23 crew members, Bangladeshi officials confirmed.

The pirates are suspected to be Somalis as the coast is located in that country, Mohammad Maksud Alam, director general at the Department of Shipping, Bangladesh, told Anadolu.

“The cargo ship named MV Abdullah was carrying coal from Mozambique's Maputo port to Al Hamriyah Port of UAE. The pirates have taken control of the ship. The crew informed us they (pirates) have heavy arms,” he added.

“All the crew members, however, are safe and the government is working to rescue them and the vessel using all possible diplomatic channels,” he added.
The vessel belongs to Bangladeshi SR Shipping Lines, the official confirmed.

Earlier, in 2010, another vessel of SR Shipping was hijacked by pirates in the Arabian Sea.

Sink the ship and have rescuers ready.

Hopefully there is an Indian Navy ship close by which will rescue the poor fellows

Regards
They might ask them for documents relating to the NRC, or to sign an affidavit that they will never cross boundaries and go into India. Perhaps an indemnity against applying for citizenship? Or an application to be filed under CAA, since there may be some who are Hindu?

It is dangerous to be a Bangladeshi, Pakistani or Afghan Muslim these days, as far as Government of India is concerned.
Fortunately, not as dangerous as being a Muslim Indian.

The BDs should stay in BDs. If they come to India illegally we need to teach them their place!!

Has anyone got serious data on this?
Not more than a few hundred, in my opinion.
There is little incentive to come into India when the Bangladesh economy is doing well, and Bangladesh offers a safe and secure living environment, compared to the situation of Muslims in India.

That is the language that Caucasian racists use about brown-skinned people.
How ironic to see that language reproduced by a victim ethnicity in another place, to put down another ethnicity in this place.

hundreds of thousands. Assam is flooded with them, same as Tripua and even Meghalaya. There was a huge tract of low lying forest land, which was illegally encroached and occupied by BD people in the 70-80s.

It's hard to say abt WB though.

I support coordination and good relations with BD govt and people. But illegal immigration cannot b condoned.

But why illegally occupy someone else's land and burn down forests and carry out smuggling activity.
Where did these dramatic things happen?
Occupy others' lands? Only possibility is in Assam, where it is a hugely disputed fact.
Burn down forests?
A new one.
Carry out smuggling activity?
Cow smuggling into Bangladesh? The cows are transported upto the border by Indian smugglers, a fee is paid to the BSF, another to the BGB, then the Bangladeshi smugglers take over.

I am in Kolkata and know hundreds personally. From watchman and maids to prostitutes and pimps, they're everywhere.

It's hard to not see BDs everyday.
You know HUNDREDS personally? I have seen hardly any traces of them.
What was pronounced while I was growing up was the hostiity of the ghoti to us Bangals. They mocked our accents, our lack of the silky smooth laid back mannerisms of the Calcuttan, our willingness to pitch in and work hard, instead of looking for legal loopholes.
Of course, there are hundreds of Bangladeshis in the rectangle between Wellesley Street on the east, Free School Street on the west, Dharamtolla Street on the north, and Royd Street on the south.
We must have inhabited different cities.
I can understand your fury at the way the forests on the Maidan were burnt down and the land occupied illegally for cultivation.
