The public display of the new Moskvich took place at the festival “Territory of the Future. Moscow 2030”, which was opened in the Manege exhibition hall near the Kremlin walls. The car is exhibited at the stand of the automobile plant along with other company models: the Moskvich 3 and Moskvich 3e crossovers, as well as the Moskvich 6 liftback.
At the same stand, as part of the interactive exhibition, one of the most critical production processes in vehicle assembly, the joining of the chassis to the body, is explained.
Like other Moskvich models, the new seven-seater crossover is a Chinese JAC produced under the Russian brand.
The Chinese analogue of the Moskvich 8 is the JAC X8 Plus crossover, sales of which in China will start in 2022 under the Sehol X8 Plus brand.
How much will it take?
In the JAC series, the X8 Plus crossover is the largest: its length is 4824 mm, the wheelbase is 2830 mm. The cabin has three rows of seats for seven people. The largest model in the Moskvich series will be the model with the index 8.
In terms of dimensions, the new Moskvich can be compared with Geely’s flagship crossover Okavango (length – 4860 mm, seven seats) or Chery Tiggo 8 (length – 4720 mm, seven seats). Of the cars that are no longer represented on the Russian market, the Korean Hyundai Santa Fe and Kia Sorento are comparable in size and equipment.

Under the hood of the new Moskvich product is a 174 hp gasoline turbo engine paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch robotic transmission. There are two screens in the cabin; a 12-inch digital display is used as the instrument panel.
The versatile camera options also include a multimedia system with smartphone connection protocols via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as a wireless charger for smartphones.
The new Moskvich is no different from the original JAC SUV, except for the logos: it has the same two-tone interior trim and ergonomic seats, a similar and large radiator grille with narrow main headlights across the entire width of the front of the body and twin lights under them.
The transmission is controlled by a huge washer on the central tunnel, with keyless access and climate control via push-button engine start.
When to expect?
The Moskvich press service announced that the family crossover will go into production and on sale by the end of 2024. In the Russian market, the car will be offered only in a seven-seater configuration.

And in the spring of 2023, production will begin in a five-seater version. In China, as an alternative to the power unit, there is a 1.5 turbo engine in local specification developing 184 hp, for which a conventional six-speed manual transmission is also offered.
