The price you pay for going for an out of production platform. Should have gone for a platform that's in production at least.unlikely.
2 were falcon airframes, one is a dubai royal flight ex airframe just bought, one is an ex chinese and one is an ex american reg bird.
5 in total so far.
well, it doesnt really matter, there will be ample airframes on the market, these kinda vlj's are probably not going to be too profitable for too long. Works for usThe price you pay for going for an out of production platform. Should have gone for a platform that's in production at least.
MAD's arent as useful as they once were, extra sonobouys are more beneficialNo MAD on the Sea Sultan?
ik that but still they will be phased out after time....same for the mirage and f16 fleets....They aren't being retired.
how does it compare to the p8i? including cost...MAD's arent as useful as they once were, extra sonobouys are more beneficial
nobody knows, i guess each has merits and drawbacks.how does it compare to the p8i? including cost...
I sometimes wonder had PAF and PN instead of going their separate ways with eireyes and sea sultans went with a common platform I.e Global eye!?
Wouldn't it be most cost effective to standardise on a single platform. Economies of scale would bring down price per plane.
Ofc the downside being much higher upfront cost and every mission may not need multiple types of sensors. And technically it's efficient to have purpose built planes but that is lowkey a luxury for a country like pakistan.
So imagine a scenario where PAF and PN (maybe PA avi too) chose to build a fleet of 15-20 globaleye/iai oron type multi mission plane for AEW/ISR/MPA wouldn't that been great.
Just a thought.
I was at the Sea View, Karachi, for the annual air show (which now never takes place). After PAF jets and PN helicopters flew by came this relatively large aircraft on the horizon. I then heard a man's voice in a distinct Karachiate dialect, "Abbay ye kya aa raha hay." I leave how it sounded and how it might have made the visuals interesting to your imagination, but the aircraft in question was Orion. I think there were two of them, in fact.Seeing the legendry p3c aircrafts retire after a couple of years is sadd....its was type of aircraft you could easily identify as it flew over you.....
If I remember correctly, questions were raised in Riksdag (Swedish parliament) on Erieye sale to Pakistan. When we went for the Erieye, we weren't sure we would get that. Even the first and second orders came near close to cancellation due to Indian relations with Europe and their pressure at that time. Our orders got filled. Global Eye came later. The Radar's range extension can be done without paying for the entire global eye standard, which is very expensive.
ISR/ASW roles are always done by specialized aircraft. Not just AWACS. The inside of an aircraft is modified entire for an ASW roles vs. the settings you need for just an AWACS aircraft. They can share data, like what the PN is doing here also, but it can't be one plane hunting subs for example as well as managing an airspace in an attack like we saw in May 2025 from India.
I have seen that display many times... Including that cqb done SSGN on the beach...p3c was a common sight from my schools football ground...loved it's design and those propellers...the mehran base attack was very bad for me cuz I loved that aircraft...my friends father was deployed on mehran base when the attack happened but by Allah's grace he survived...I was at the Sea View, Karachi, for the annual air show (which now never takes place). India’s P-8I are supposedly downgraded versions of the US P-8 in the sonars and sensor processing.how does it compare to the p8i? including cost...
Now with the PAF measured but remarkable performance in May, the Erieye is attracting sales in places like France. So, I think future sales of Swedish sensor platforms, not offensive system, will probably be promoted by SAAB in the Riksdag. If I remember correctly, questions were raised in Riksdag (Swedish parliament) on Erieye sale to Pakistan.
