US Perspective on the Iran - Israel / US War

My two latest posts were hardly even related to the Iranian regime other than me stating the fact - that the Iranian regime threw Hezbollah under the bus again and that Houthis learned it the hard way as well earlier which is why they were inactive completely during the recent conflict.

But yes, the bias (and ignorance) is amazing. Sadly endemic among the forum leadership/ownership. Sad that they cannot separate their own personal love relationship with the Iranian regime and factual criticism of it and open discussions. I am openly criticizing Arab regimes, policies, past historical mistakes openly on a weekly basis - have no problem with that, but somehow there are certain regimes (with arguably much worse track records mind you - such as the Iranian regime) that cannot be criticized. It is frankly pathetic and very much unlike the old PDF where nobody had any special protection from what I remember.

Very disappointing from grown ups that are mostly likely 20-40 years older than me. No idea what the purpose of such threads even are if we cannot have free discussions within the forum rules. Either that or make it a condition upon joining this forum that you must worship the Iranian regime blindly and never criticize it. Nothing worse than to pretend that the rules are applied similarly, when not the case, while silencing certain opinions.
Rant away

What Trump did was to show the world how it's viable to ignore international law and norms;
Yes, it has ALWAYS been easy to ignore 'international laws and norms'. Human shields, for one example. Prior to deployment to DS, we were warned, off the record, that human shields tactics are the norm for Muslim armies, and some in the squadron actually talked to civilian lawyers -- just in case.

Looky here...

There is no such thing as 'international laws'. Norms, I agree. But laws? Laughable. A law dies on paper if there is not even the potential of enforcement, so who is going to enforce 'international laws'? The UN? They depends on members to supply troops for said enforcement, and that is only after they reluctantly agreed. Remember the veto power of the Security Council? That is like New York City vetoed a proposed bill in Sydney and Sydney has to obey.

Yes, it is true that everyone, including US, often invoked 'international laws' when it suits their needs. But that underscores the SPECIOUSNESS of 'international laws' even greater. Then after the deeds were done, everyone, including US, performed mental gymnastics to justify our actions.

That said...

I do believe in 'norms'. Google AI got it right: Norms are enforced through social pressure (shame, exclusion). Laws are enforced by state institutions (police, courts).

Countries with similar norms should form their own alliances. Enrich and protect each other. This is what the UN is really afraid of. The UN is nothing but a collection of Third World countries looking to drag everyone else down to their level. Time for the US to exit the UN.

it also shows Iran how they can get what they want as long as Trump is in power. I don't think that from now on, short of a full invasion of Iran, there would be any way we can stop Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons because Trump has shown Iran that taking Hormuz hostage and threatening the world works, and we are too dumb to have made any alternative since the 1970s.
If Iraq, under Saddam Hussein, never invaded Kuwait, Iraq would be a nuclear weapons state today, if we go by the testimony of Mahdi Obeidi. Does anyone really think that Iran, under the mullahs, really going to remains inside the borders?

Israelis are not even trying. Its that easy for them, after like 6 weeks of being "Pounded" by iran.
These are just dumb bombs being dropped by aircrafts.
Why couldn't Iran destroy runways, and ammunition dumps ?
The cute bomblets iran had been firing at IsraelView attachment 191319View attachment 191320, were fine initially to deplete air defences. But after initial two weeks, Iran had been announcing 1 ton warheads, which apparently never arrived, or Israel won't be making it look that easy.

I doubt IRGC are even serious about fighting Israel.
