NEW — The strengthening of the Turkish Navy is causing concerns in Israel; retired Major General Eliezer Marom, former Commander of the Israeli Navy, has issued warnings:

"The Turkish navy could cause many problems."

"Israel, Cyprus (RoC), and Greece wanted to build a pipeline running under the sea; this would be a problem, and we would probably need the Turks' approval for it. There are other infrastructure elements like fiber optic cables under the sea, and this would definitely have an economic impact."

"The State of Israel must take this threat into account."

"It is of great importance to develop comprehensive strategic thinking and, by strengthening the Navy, to become a much more significant actor in the Mediterranean."

"This way, we can deal with the threats that may arise, whenever and however they emerge."
