The buy of some war equipment would not have made the Iranian army to be on the same level as the powerful armies of the world. The entire naval fleet of the Shah's army could resist the American attack for only a few hours. The tanks bought from England were bullshits and...

it is like considering the current Saudi army as powerful. The current Arabia and Iran during the time of the Shah have many similarities. They are both economic and military dependents and servants of the West.

Putting the Shah aside, you guys underestimate what an advantage tech gives you. How do you think "Israel" pushed Hezbollah back with a conscript army? It was the air force and drone tech advantage that was decisive. Ansarallah beat UAE's mercs and Saudi ground troops but never had a response to Saudi jets and now Yemen is still not unified under them. And as we see in Ukraine drones are a game changer. The best trained well motivated fighter can't beat a drone or plane dropping a bomb on his head. Iran's navy wasn't advanced even for its time and most of it's ground and air force was on its way to being replaced. F-16s, Shir 1, and new destroyers never arrived. If they had, Iraq would have been demolished year 1.

Diego Garcia airport is c. 3900km from south Iran (just north of Chabahar). a large number of B-2 bomber aircraft can be seen parked at the airport in recent satellite images, with US officials saying this military build up is linked to Trump's threats against iran.

Shahed-136B has claimed range of 4000km.

other drones / ballistic missiles can also be launched from forward base ships (Shahid Mahdavi, Shahid Roudaki, Shahid Bagheri) if they get closer to Diego Garcia, but that is easier to see in advance

what air defences does Diego Garcia have? from quick search, cannot find any.
