TF-X / KAAN / Hürjet Turkish Fighter & Trainer Aircrafts News & Discussions

Would the PAF be interested into merging the PFX and its participation in the KAAN program, to go for the single engine version of the KAAN. Equipped with one TF35000, if Pakistan can build it bulk and the PFX/Kaan can be a long term replacement for all fighters except the J-35A. The TF35000 if paired with a 10,000 kg empty weight air frame would have the same thrust to weight as the Eurofighter. Build around missiles like the PL-17, it could really see all efforts move towards a viable “light to medium” fighter that can be build in bulk, and allow the PAF to have quantity and quality.

This single engine platform could also be sold as a fighter/trainer for the Turkish twin engine KAAN, and possibly small enough to be able to fit on the Turkish aircraft carrier, if not other nation’s aircraft carriers.
I don't think it's possible. The PFX is based on. The Thunder platform, and is really just Pakistan's effort to increase its share in the fighter by increasing indigenous parts, and upgrades.

Expertise gained from the KAAN would help significantly, but merging the two would be difficult.

The JF-17 has an empty weight of 8,000 kg. Scaling up the design to 10,000 kg and going with the PFX design already studied could work with the TF35000, especially as the missiles being carried are longer than the PL-15E.

A new engine by the end of the year?

Come on! The NationalInterest posts any random shit to get more clicks & attention!

We all remember what they published before and remember their almost 8 reports claiming the sci-fi-model shown at Zhuhai would be China‘s next generation fighter!

Just forget it.

At that point you're just designing a brand new fighter jet, defeating the purpose of the PFX program.

Scaling up to a medium weight fighter would essentially require a massive overhaul of the fuselage and wings, as well as internal systems and fuel storage.

No.

- Only the first prototype of the TF35000 will be built around the end of 2025 or beginning of 2026. The first ignition will be carried out in the same year.

- If all goes well, it is planned to start testing on the Kaan in 2028. The Kaan prototype, which is reserved for engine tests, will be fitted with 1 GE F110 and 1 TF35000.

- Again, if all goes well, we will see mass-production Kaans equipped with TF35000 in 2032 at the earliest.

As you can see, there are lots of "If" LOL
I fully agree.
A fighter engine is among the most complicated object to study and produce in the world, and Turkey is not a perfect newbie but not a master class in engines.
The road is long... See Kaveri history.

The article had one specific data point, it was claiming: a new engine by the end of the year. The response, when I asked, was, by the end of the year or early next year.

But if we are going to do extensive air frame redesign , why cap the potential as a light fighter. Why not go for a light to medium fighter, especially if we get in at rh ground floor, and can try to get ToT of everything including the engine. The J-35A would still be of larger platform at ~14,000 kg empty weight.

It would defeat the purpose of the thunder, which is supposed to be cheap to maintain and use.

The higher up the scale you get, the higher the cost.

Selling to Spain is very significant for sure. Turkieye should insist on Hurjets to replace the Hawks in the RAF in return for buying the Typhoon !!! Maybe if they talk about increasing the order from 40 to 80, they can approach the topic then? The UK has no answer right now on how to replace the Hawk. There is talk of potentially the Aermacchi M-346 Master as part of having a consolidated training pipeline between the UK and Italy but i reckon it is still up for grabs for the Hurjet.

Imagine the Red Arrows flying the Hurjet, that would advertising on a global scale for Turkieye!

In fact Spain wanted to develop our own supersonic trainer. But after M346, Hurjet, Golden Eagle, L15 and the much inflated Red Hawk... someone on the DoD finally understood that there is not space for a new model.
I think it is a good aircraft. Now just let it be. It is too early for any realistic assessment. The good starting point it is Turkey is allowing clients to develop and entering the program. That was the main reason why Ejército del Aire discarded M346.
