Cuase western stuff though good is very very expensive not just to buy but use and reuse they cost equally if not double in mantainence as the russian option , besides that there is always a pain when you need spare parts or mantainence intellegence support weapons in times of WAR as we learned it during Kargil

French did not well on paper permit us to use indegenous or israeli tech on Mirage2000

Americans did not give sattelite pictures or GPS signals or locations of terrorits hidding on kargil peaks

europeans stopped supply of mountain & winter gear and ammunation

it was only russia and israel that helped us so the answer is ...????

Actually if you look at total cost of ownership, including maintenance and repairs, Russian equipment is often more expensive than that from the West. Also, if you ask those who have served in the forces and actually used Russian equipment, the feedback is usually negative .

Specific mention here that before that before 2019 the plan was to bring Su 57 tech into Su 30. The plan was scrapped after IAF exited the NGFA.
