Hasina needs to back down and reduce this "freedom fighter" quota down to something like 10% which most people would tolerate.
In a country without a strong economy yet, a 30% quota just makes a bad job situation even worse.
What kind of losers want government jobs?
How about getting marketable skills?
There’s a huge shortage worldwide of trades people (electricians, carpenters, plumbers, plasterers, bricklayers).
There’s also a huge shortage of medical staff.
Unfortunately, Bangladeshis cannot even string two sentences together in English hence these jobs go to Indians!!!
Bangladeshi private sector has to import millions of Indians and Sri Lankans to fill vital roles in hospitality and garments sector.
These “students” need to wake up!!!
Btw, absolutely oppose the BAL quota system that means most government jobs goto BAL cronies.
Anyway, quota or no quota - I would NEVER EVER apply for a civil service job!!!
Bangladesh Top Court Scales Back Jobs Quota That Sparked Deadly Violence
Bangladesh's top court on Sunday pared back contentious civil service hiring rules but failed to mollify university student leaders, whose demonstrations against the scheme sparked nationwide clashes that have killed 155 people.www.ndtv.com
The SCB has already granted much of the rioters demands, they should go back to their homes and the government should hunker down now and not give an inch. I am afraid the movement has been hijacked by transnational actors- the usual sucpects.
Regards
Are you for real?
200+ people were killed and you expect things to go back to normal for your Hasina didi? Wars have started for far fewer loss of life.
There was never a need for court order - the govt has all the power. Even in the latest ruling the provision is there for the govt to change the quota. SC just reiterated that the ball was always in Govt hand.
Instead of resolving it through dialogue 3 weeks earlier, when the students requested a meeting with ministers multiple times, they were snubbed. The students then were protesting peacefully and disproportional brutal force was applied to crush their protest.
It is no longer about quota reform the moment civilian lives were lost, especially in this magnitude. Any democratic elected government of a properly functioning democracy would step down after 200+ death.
She should have met their demands instead of mocking and calling them anti national entity.
So far, more than 300 people gave their lives. It's no longer about quota. Hasina must step down.
BD is not a democracy and cannot be a democracy as otherwise we will have chaos.
Hasina messed up for sure but there is no other option now but her.
We can talk about democracy in the 2030s when BD has developed a bit more and the population is more educated.
BD economy is facing massive challenges due to twin Covid-19 and Ukraine war issues. The economy will still be weak for some more time as these are finally filtered out of the picture. Yes corruption and incompetence did not help but they are minor in the big picture of the economy.
If BD economy was in such good shape - these students would not have been fighting over govt. jobs. You have to feel the pulse of the people on the ground. I am not sure if you have relatives back home, but if you do you will know that people are not exactly living the 2K+ per capita income Hasina keeps bragging about.

Both Jamaat and BNP has officially declared to continue this protest to have Hasina step down.
After 200+ deaths, only fools can expect things to go back to normalcy.
