Chengdu J-20 5th Generation Aircraft News & Discussions

Because ws-15 is better? Like why do u keep asking these things lol engine is fully sufficient for j-20 needs. First off u always go for higher thrust for engine which is what China is doing and there's nothing wrong with that especially a flanker size aircraft like j-20. Like j-20 is huge. Bottom is f-35 btw.f-35 looks like a j-10c in size .

WS-15 is intended for J20 from day one not WS-10

Because ws-15 wasnt fully developed at the time so ws-10 was just the alternative option. U have to understand u get what u need before replacing it with a different engine there's no time to waste for China. Build build build

Oher poster in this thread earlier that WS-10 is for J20 not WS-15

Who? U like what I'm showing u tho?? Is everything clear now??? 😭 😂 I didn't think j-20 was that big but seeing it next to f-35 damn that bird got some legs

No WS-15 is not fully developed before WS-10, WS-15 is always intended to operational in 2023

Stop- gap engine is the right word for WS-10, just like AL-31F engine was fitted to J20 early in j-20 testing phase

Ok that's what I said. A stop gap lol ofc u go for what's available until the other is ready. At least no more import engine from Russia.everything Russian was just a learning stage now China surpassed it in lots of things.remember it takes time for china.

But how long it's capable of supercruise and if WS-10 is sufficient for J20 then why you're developing WS-15 for J20?
Because WS15 is intended for J20B which J20 on steroids aka 5.5 gen fighter with longer range, cooperative engagement cum loyal wingman, and other gee-whiz technology we don't know yet Just like J10 you have J10A, J10B and now J10C each iteration is better than previous one! Logical?

Exactly

Exactly every iteration is an improvement. Like why would u stop with ws-10 lol shit I'm sure there will be ws-15 variants like b c version down the line.

Whatever you think WS-10 is considered always as a stop-gap engine for J20 until WS-15 is mature just like AL-31F fitted on J20 in its early testing phase when WS-10 was not mature

That is what you think. They are not going to re-engine J20A with WS15 It is just too much work plus it changes the whole Aerodynamic characteristic because of different weight, center of gravity, dimension, etc! Fly by wire of the plane. also has to be reprogrammed etc Not worth the trouble J20A will stay with WS10C it is a good engine more than a match for the F-22 or slow and short-legged F35.
You see WS-15 is tested on J20B and not on J20A

Exactly. He thinks all ws-10 variants are trash. 🤣 I'm more interested in the royal wing man that will be paired with j-20b fh-97a. I wonder what the finishing product looks like. This thread is ruined sorry boys.

I'm in the old forum since 2011 I know lot better than you about the history of J20 and WS-15 and WS-10 equipped J20 is no better than F-22 for sure, its can't supercruise much longer with WS-10 and J20 is lot bigger than F-22 hence more thrust is needed to overcome T/W ratio of 1 and lift to drag ratio and from here there will be no more WS-10 on the J20

They are producing J20A as we speak with the WS10C engine 120 copies per year. Do you think the PLA is stupid that they give the green light for inferior products that cannot match adversaries Come on give PLA more credit. They wait a long time for WS10C to mature. The initial batch of roughly 70 uses an AL31F engine. They didn't mass-produce back then because they knew it was an inferior engine! Even when WS10B is available They wait!

Because they have no options but to install weaker engine because WS-15 is not ready

Ws-10c is not weak tho maybe the earlier version. Thurst is not that far off from ws-15. Hendarto gave u a very good answer. Only 70 uses al31f. Most j-20 are currently equipped with ws-10c a powerful engine almost on par with ws-15 close enough.
