Tsk tsk, this picture is from the famous military enthusiast Feiyang Iron Vest in the Chinese military circle,He cited an image from a certain platform, and it is highly likely that it will gradually be exposed

It may have a clear version exposed in the future
I have a premonition that the J-35 is likely not just a naval version, but also includes an air force version, which may not be called J-35, but rather J-31
Because in 2022, SAC stated on its official platform that Vice General Manager Zhan Qiang, in order to implement "one type of equipment serving two markets", jointly established the "Huying" office with the venue, cultivated target customers, and sold a solid step for the military trade business in Shenyang region

Here in better quality:

Are the engines still RD-93s, or are they using WS-13 or WS-19 or WS-21 ? Engine seems smokey on more thrust requests it seems for sure.

also known as ws21
Yes, it is also known as ws21, which is said to be a strong demand from the ws12 design team, because ws13e adopts ws12's technology. They replace RD93's 4-stage fan with a three-stage fan matched with ws12. In addition, ws13e also uses fan blades to sweep forward to delay separation and improve intake efficiency. The high-pressure turbine adopts single crystal blades and high-efficiency cooling technology to increase the temperature in front of the turbine. But overall, WS-13E retains the overall design and structure of RD-93, and it has strong versatility with RD-93.

To be honest, I am very regretful about the suspension of the development of the WS 12 medium thrust turbofan engine in the 1990s, and they ultimately chose the WP14. A turbojet engine, WP14, spent the only special engine development funds in the 1990s, but did not receive an excellent engine platform that could sustain development. Even its production and application were average, which can be said to be a huge waste. I still remember the extensive promotion of WP14 decades ago, and I don't understand why turbojet engines are still being developed,Ws13e, also known as ws21, adopts partial ws12 technology, which can only compensate for the regret of the ws12 design team,It will accompany j35 for a period of time until it is replaced by ws19。

This is a report from China: "In terms of performance, even if WS12 was completed around 2000, it is considered outstanding among medium thrust engines worldwide. Especially because all of its components are self-developed, and we are very clear about the advantages and disadvantages of each thing, the further development path of the engine is also very clear. The further development of each component can bring progress in engine performance. WS12's design is relatively late, so its architecture is better than RD93, F404, RB199. The thrust is larger than them all, and the thrust to weight ratio is also higher. It can almost touch the lower limit of which level of M88."

Hopefully, the tragedy of China being cancelled in the 1990s due to insufficient funds and a lack of installation targets for engines will not occur again. Our choice at that time was not based on the best, but on the most realistic

Fortunately, China's high thrust engine WS10 persisted and did not face the fate of the medium thrust engine WS12. This is also related to the priority development of high thrust engines in China at that time. Now, the design team of WS12 has also joined the development of WS19. I am very much looking forward to WS19, which will be an advanced medium thrust engine that China will start from scratch and each step will be its own exploration

Two previously not released image of a J-35 prototype ...
Interesting hints in the comment section say these images are already about 2 years old showing the 2. prototype no. 350003 & they note it is now renumbered to 3503. And also interesting, the latest know prototype no. 3505 (confirmed in mid-2023) is not the newest one.
