UASF T-38s are 60/70 years old. IAF Hawks are 18 years old. Get a grip of yourself....

It is not, unless you prove evidence that any airforce has trainers with 75%+ serviceablity.
2008 USAF figures also show T-38 had serviceability of 64.8%.

Literally the article is stating the IAF has not even begun the indigenisation process, basically you do not want to actually believe your own eyes or the words of the IAF. That is fine by me.

Indiginezation of 70% components already began 6 years before itself, what this article is saying that remaining 20-30% are being indigenized too.

Would not surprise me if Rafale servicability is low, they have been using them on Chinese border too. Do you know if they got the private contract for Dassault to guarantee service levels?

My guess is if they have 28 odd left and with say 75% availability they may have just 18-20 ready to fly

Guys, I’ve just watched Operation Safed Sagar web series on Netflix and this Kargil air-war stuff is fucking insane

And the whole air campaign basically became a game of figuring out how to attack without giving the Pakistani positions an easy shot at you. Low-level attacks were brutally difficult in that terrain, so the IAF shifted towards high-altitude bombing and adapted its tactics as the war went on. Pilots were improvising around mountains, weather, MANPADS, radar coverage and the limitations of the aircraft itself. The part that really got me is the MiG-21s doing night bombing over that terrain. IAF pilots were literally using stopwatches and GPS receivers to calculate their bombing runs because the MiG-21s didn’t exactly have sophisticated navigation systems at that time. And they were doing this over those ridiculous 14,000-18,000 ft ridgelines where the mountains themselves were fucking with target visibility, approach directions and even the effectiveness of the bombs.

IAF basically had to learn the problem as it was fighting it. The early MiG-21/MiG-23/MiG-27 attacks with unguided weapons weren't giving them the accuracy they needed, so they started adapting the whole approach and brought in the Mirage 2000 for precision attacks.

And the night missions are probably the craziest bit. Imagine taking an old MiG-21 into the Himalayas at night, finding a tiny target buried somewhere in those ridgelines and trying to put a dumb bomb where it actually matters with a stopwatch and GPS helping you do the job.
