The issue is simply because even PAF professionals are guilty of making off handed statements that may not be reflective of reality because they aren’t linked or informed of it.Yes for sure, in the same way like JH-7A, J-11B, J-15 and the Liaoning and 055 DDG, and J-16 which are said to be not only available for free but like some claim already secretly in service in Pakistan … today a clown on Twitter suggested, Pakistan should introduce H-6 bombers.
You guys should stop smoking that stuff.
Come on, J-20 will not be available, J-35 won’t be ready for the PLAN in 3-4 years and surely not a not yet flown fighter J-31.
A few years ago a PAF Chief made a statement during an interview that they could get the F-22 if they had the funds and want it. Now we all know the F-22 is prohibited for export by law and even Clinton promising Israel the F-22 in a letter did nothing to change that.
The same way, the J-20 was not available to the PAF in my outdated but first hand knowledge from someone who is now a key decision maker in the PAF. I keep bringing this up like a record but because it was first hand and that the individual was someone critical in the JF-17s development and today is also critical - the options available to the PAF were one from Shenyang and one from Chengdu(which you may know of).
Similarly, there was also a restriction on the J-11 series due to the Russians which is why it wasn’t on the table - it might or might not be now but it wasn’t a few years ago. While whims and conditions can change at any time(Israel being allowed access to F-35 source code to fit their own systems) for the large part China treats Pakistan more so as a customer (albeit a very strong one) than a true partner. Which means that when the JF-17 was provided to Pakistan they did not give access to many systems and wanted control on integrations and supplies contrary to some expectations by the PAF.
That led to the PAF trying their own ways without OEM involvement that led to a crash and other friction as well.
So while Pakistan does get first sneak and info on a LOT of developments and systems within the Chinese defense industry that are still not in the light of day - its not a joint bank account or their daddy’s car they can touch willy nilly.
