Iran-Iraq war shaped backbone of revolutionary Iran. That war made Iranian tribes one iron fist. It not only built our modern society but also United our tribes. The martyrs that nation presented to revolution and watered the young plant of Iran with their pure and holy blood, were truly unmatched in whole Iranian history from Bakeri, Hemmat to Zarrin.
However, in the past and before revolution we had our shehits too, some of them unknown to most of us.
When red army crossed the borders of southern Caucasus and invaded Iran, an Azeri soldier resisted and stopped red army's advancing units for almost 4 hours. He stopped Soviets' most modern artillery units against their CAS warplanes and choppers. He killed a considerable number of enemy soldiers before embracing Shehadet.
The field commander of red army after getting exhausted by his outstanding resistance chopped his head out of anger and sent it to his commander behind frontlines.
Today, The garrison is named SadAfarin in his honor. The village is named soldier of motherland. Azeris consider the shehit a holy soul, we visit his tomb with bare feet.

U.S radar planes ( AWACS ) will cover 10 to 11 points in the region (Persian Gulf) at the cost of $86 billions. (for next 10 years ).
Interesting thread and media, but it is all from the Iranian perspective. I guess the forum doesn't enough have Iraqi members to provide a counter perspective.
