Egyptian Air Defense

Egypt doesnt have S-300V4...
Only Russia has S-300V4 variant with 400 km 40N6 Missile

Egypt has S-300VM ( Antey-2500 ) with 200-250 km 9M82M and 9M83M air defense missiles
I know Egypt got the S-300V4.. it has a strategic relationship with Russia.. but let's assume it is the VM.. that too has a missile of 350 km.. just do your search..

You beat me to it O' Great One. :giggle: I was getting ready to post this impressive and vital branch among the 4 Armed Forces branches and their radars and entire network. It's really something. And all this stuff is just the half of it when you think about it. All the underground assets that we're constantly hearing about but haven't seen any of it? And I'm not 100% sure, but I believe this command & control is actually underground somewhere unknown with decoys to confuse enemy satellite, SIGINT assets and possible enemy surveillance or recon missions during times of war. They've really gone all out to beef up the air defense infrastructure from the lessons learned in the debacle of 1967 and the phenomenal success of 1973.

And this is a perfect example of how serious they're taking the air defense of Egypt. This is no joke lol and I truly believe this is one of several underground command & control centers. (let me know if you can't see this pic)

All flying aircraft of any kind must have both valid transponders for IFF that identifies them and shows their correct flight route and also issued, registered identification codes so that when they get spotted by the automated system and their transponders don't automatically ID them, then they're radio-contacted in order to give that ID code which is also permission to enter Egyptian airspace given to foreign aircraft. If neither of those steps are able to be validated after several attempts, that's when they get intercepted which is worst case scenario and never really gets to that point. But it's a sound system which is why they have so many of these operators that constantly train.

The best part about all of this is most people that constantly praise the zionist and at the same time diss the Egyptian military as no match and would get instantly destroyed and all that usual crapola, most likely because of what happened in 1967 or some personal bias/hatred have no clue of how extensive and well-organized and effective this is to defend from any attack. They don't even consider what the Egyptian air defense did in 1973 when they slaughtered the zionist aircraft by the hundreds. For some reason they ignore that which was the foundation to the impetus of the creation of what we see here today. When they see these pictures and suddenly realize how impressive the Egyptian Air Defense network is, it makes them think again twice, at the least.

I believe this system has quickly become their favorite medium & short-range system, bro. I also believe this is the one they used to shoot down the Houthi missile that flew near Taba. And because it's so effective and high-tech and has excellent medium range, they're contracting for many more of them to possibly replace some of the older SAM batteries.

I can see your pic..

My guess would be the Octagon.. since all of the other government facilities are already operational in the new capital....

It's quite impressive. It's gotten a lot of criticism, but they ignored all that irrelevant noise and now it's almost entirely complete with just punch-list items left.

I can only imagine the security detail they'll be assigning to that place hahaha. The way it supposedly has a lot of underground bunkers and offices and amenities etc., or at least that's what people say lol.

Development of the P-14 radar to the P-14MA
Development of the P-14 radar to the P-14MA version

Egypt signed a contract with Russia and Ukraine in the late nineties to develop radars and military systems and obtained the (Oborona-14 or P-14), an advanced radar working on a high VHF frequency up to a range of 600 km with an altitude of up to 65 km. It was developed with the Ukrainian company (Aerotechnica MLT) for the benefit of Egypt.

In country.

The EAD also operates the P-18 Radar as part of the Russia/Ukraine joint venture.

Also a high VHF frequency radar with a range of 275 km and an altitude of 35 km and is also characterized by its ability to detect fast-moving targets at an altitude as low as 500 meters from a distance of 60 km. Perfect for wide desert plains. It also has the ability to monitor and track aerial targets conducting electronic warfare & signal interference with a large library of SIGINT IFF codes.

On a side note, I do wonder how these joint Russo-Ukrainian contracted projects that most certainly have been affected by Russia's SMO will now be handled for things like continuing support. I'm sure it'll work out, but it will be interesting to see.

Avenger system in operation with the Egyptian Air Defense Forces

The American-made Avenger system consists of a mobile tower mounted on Humvee multi-mission vehicles and contains:

- Two quad launchers equipped with 8 short-range FIM-92 Stinger missiles with a seeker with a dual-color inspection system with Infrared IR and Ultraviolet UV detectors. The infrared seeker tracks the hot exhaust coming from the target’s engine, while the seeker Ultraviolet radiation tracks thermal radiation coming from the target. The missile has a range of 8 km, a height of 3.5-3.8 km, and a maximum speed of 2,700 km/h. It can deal with various air threats, including cruise missiles, drones, fighter planes, and helicopters.

- 12.7 mm heavy machine gun, model FN M3P (derived from the famous M2 Browning machine gun), with an automatic system for remote control from the driver’s cabin of the Humvee or by a firing squadron inside the mobile turret, and its rate of fire reaches 1,200 rounds/minute.

- The monitoring and targeting system, which consists of an infrared monitoring system, FLIR Forward Looking Infrared, a laser rangefinder system, LRF Laser Range Finder, a video system for automatic tracking, AVT Automatic Video Tracker, and an optical system for the firing squad, equipped with sensors that activate the missile’s thermal seeker, as well as command and unlock indicators. Launch containers and finally a network system that confirms that the missile has captured the target, in addition to the IFF system.

* The detection, targeting and tracking systems are controlled by a control computer called ACE Avenger Control Electronics located in the shooting cockpit of the mobile tower, and the entire system can be controlled remotely from a distance of up to 50 meters.

* The system can launch up to 4 missiles in succession at the target, and is distinguished by its ability to engage while moving at a maximum speed of 35 km/s.

Reading all those excellent specs for the Avenger makes you realize not only how good it is, but how perfect a decision it was for the EN which was advised by the EAD on the most ideal system to use as a temporary CIWS on the Mistrals. They nailed it making the best choice since it's basically a mobile, land-version of a naval CIWS.

And because most of the times that it's photographed while it's being used, it's firing its missiles and rarely the gun so many people don't even realize or know that it also has powerful machine gun the 12.7 mm FN M3P heavy machine gun (modeled after the legendary M2 Browning) that fires 1200 rounds per/minute. That made it perfect for the Mistrals. So perfect that it's caused them to procrastinate on getting permanently fixed CIWSs hahaha. And what about the grief they got for doing that? Remember all the ragging and ball-busting BS? It was pathetic lol. Hardly anyone that I can remember had any positive remarks or even constructive criticism, just ragging. I think the only one who did actually say something positive was that guy Penguin. The name ring a bell? He was a pretty knowledgeable fella and I clearly remember we were discussing how he thought they could actually use the Avenger as a permanent system on the two carriers. Obviously removing the turrets and getting rid of the HMMWV to get it more compact and to be able to fit in the designated CIWS turret spots on the ships.

Either way, despite all the bitching and ragging and criticizing, the EN had made the perfect choice, and everyone now can see why that is. Heck even the zioninsts did the same thing with one of their ships using one of their iron shmoms. But it wasn't that much after everyone saw the Egyptian Navy with the Avengers and quite possibly the zionist got the idea from that, I wouldn't be surprised. But of course no one said anything negative them lolzo.

Clearly the Avenger one of the EAD's favorite SAM systems the way they use them and attach them to many of the different battalions & regiments of the armed forces including the navy.

The EAD also trains on using the Avenger Control Electronics (ACE) remotely (as you mentioned in the specs can be used up to a distance of 50 meters) to run the entire system from detection to tracking & targeting.

AN/TPS-59(V)3 early warning radar operated by the Egyptian Air Defense

The AN/TPS-59 is an American-made 3D phased array early warning radar for detecting ballistic missiles and various air targets, with 3D phased array antennas (provides range, altitude, and bearing data)

- Advanced, highly sensitive antennas with Active Electronically Elevation Scanning Array (AESA) mode, while horizontal scanning is done through mechanical radar movement rotating at an angle of 360°.

- A developed, high-precision computer with improved software for data processing, which allowed - in addition to the developed antennas - to track ballistic missiles during their flight and provide reports on their location in real time, with an estimate of the launch point and the point of collision of the missiles.

- The ability to operate in three modes: Air Breathing Targets mode (planes and missiles with engines that require air to burn fuel) - Theater Ballistic Missile mode (ballistic missiles launched from a distance of 300 km to 3500 km) - Operating mode In a combined manner of the previous two styles.

- The ability to work with the medium-range Hawk and Patriot long-range air defense systems, and the AEGIS missile defense system on board destroyers and cruisers in the US Navy.

The Egyptian Air Defense Forces have 14 radars, divided into the following two versions:

1) 5 radars from the towed version AN/TPS-59(V)2 were upgraded to the AN/TPS-59(V)3 version in 2003.

2) 9 radars from the smaller self-propelled version AN/TPS-59M/34 were developed and renewed in 2004, and Egypt is the only country that owns the self-propelled version.

*Radar specifications:

1) Working wave range: The L/D band is within the Ultra High Frequency UHF range, in the frequency range 1215 - 1400 MHz.

2) Monitoring capabilities:

A- Against ballistic missiles throughout the theater of operations:

- Maximum range: 740 km at a 360° horizontal angle

- Maximum altitude: 305 km.

- Angle of directing the electronic radiation vertically: -5° ~ 60°

B- Monitoring capabilities against aircraft and mobile missiles:

- Maximum range: 555 km at a 360° horizontal angle

- Maximum altitude: 30.5 km.

- Angle of directing the electronic radiation vertically: -2° ~ 20°

3) Reliability:

- Operability: 99%

- Average time between critical errors: more than 2000 hours

4) Mobility and transportation:

- Possibility of transportation by C-130 Hercules aircraft.

- Possibility of transportation by designated trucks.

- Possibility of installation in locations not prepared in advance.

- Reaching full working capacity from the moment the site is chosen: 4 hours.

Hell of a radar system. The specs are amazing.
Like you mentioned, 9 of the total 14 radars are the AN/TPS-59M/34 self-propelled versions which were developed and renewed in 2004, and Egypt is the only country that owns the self-propelled version.

In the southern delta area.

Some of those guys are such posers lol. Hey, that's why they're Type-A personalities.

This particular squadron is tasked with fast interception of Egyptian airspace violations. Their F-16s are always armed with AIM-7s & AIM-9s and on standby 24/7 ready to jump and go for any breach. And they've learned A LOT from the sleazy tactics the zionist would pull on them back in the 60s and into the War of Attrition, sending in decoys to lure them out and pounce on them by another hiding and flanking group flying low to evade Egyptian ground radars.

A few legendary stories came out of those traps by the zionist including the actual MiG-21's first historically recorder kill. I posted about this before.

This was back in the day when tensions were really high, and war could break out any moment and the Soviet doctrine the EAF had trained on was to be at the ready so much so that pilots were assigned to sit in their MiG-21s in shifts for hours on end so they can just crank the engines and take off. That was crazy but that's how they did it and how the MiG-21 got its first ever recorded kill.

An EAF MiG-21 pilot sitting in his office just waiting for intercept orders should they come in.

1715348900349.png
The story HERE is anyone is interested.

This doctrine also spurred the terrific story of the great Christian Egyptian MiG-21 pilot Major Genera Ahmad Kamal Al Mansouri and the famous battle over the Gulf of Suez. It in February of 1973 along with his wingman Hassan Lotfi were tasked to intercept 6 incoming Israeli F-4 Phantoms coming southeast from the Gulf of Suez moving west. Mansouri & Lotfi surprised-intercepted the zionist and Mansouri aggressively shot down the leading zionist phantom right at the merge, caught them by surprise and watched the fiery Phantom plummet into the Red Sea. That shocked the rest of the zionist who went into complete disarray. They were barrel rolling and looping and almost crashed into one another. The two courageous men fought the remaining 5 F-4 Phantom IIs with guns on their MiG-21s in circling aerial battles for another 13 minutes, eventually scattering the rest.

They were on fumes trying to return to base in Hurgada and couldn't make it, tried landing on a road and while Mansouri's MiG-21 barely made it sliding off the road into the sand and was badly damaged. Hassan Lotfi couldn't safely land his and was martyred.

General Kamal Al Mansouri.

1715350762659.png

Those two stories (and some other good ones) inspired and propelled the EAF's interceptors' squadrons to what it is today. Nowadays, the interceptor duties are not relegated to just the F-16s but are now shared with the Rafales and MiG-29Ms.

How christian and his name is Ahmad Mansour hahahaha? Sure that you didn't mistaken the pilot?

I'm pretty sure he was a Christian, no? The rules for Copts relaxed quite a bit going way back to the Fatimids and even Copts began naming their children Muslim names to avoid certain "hardships." I'm definitely not mistaking him for another pilot but maybe am mistaken that he was Christian.

From what I remembered was one of those positive things about him that he was among the many Christians Copts who fought in 1973.

What serious Egyptian military history buff doesn't know about the great Samir Aziz Mikhail man lol. All the great stories and interviews (especially from 73 Historians who we used to have one of the guys who created that group with us on an old forum back in 2008, his username was "Vondeyaz"). As a matter of fact, he and 3 others started 73 Historians and he was conducting many of the interviews with all these heroes of the wars.

Best one with Samir Mikhail was the one when he and his two buddies were running on the tarmac at the start of 1967 trying to get to their MiG-21s and the zionist were bombing the airport and he took out his pistol and shot at one of the zionist Mirages trying to do anything he can at the surprise and he couldn't believe the zionist in the Mirage took a 180 turn and came around firing his guns and strafing the ground at him. I think he said something like he couldn't believe that asshole was so vindictive to come around and shoot 1 guy on the ground with a pistol. An indication as to the hateful criminal mind they had. He jumped behind a sand dune or something it. It was an amazing story. Do you remember that?

He also has a lot of other great ones especially his several kills in the MiG-21 later in 67 and during the War of Attrition. No, not him I know him very well this man is a legend.

I honestly thought Mansouri was a Christian and remember reading a lot how people were talking about him being a Copt with his blue eyes and how handsome he was and all that stuff. Maybe I got it wrong.

I wrote about Al-Mansouri and that great dogfight with the Phantoms in the old PDF that the zionist deny having one of the 6 shot down by an Egyptian MiG-21 of course. Nothing but filthy lies from them.
