Never in my life have I seen Iran and Israel bracketed or hyphenated together for public chastisement by a serving US President.
Israel is, on paper, an indispensable ally to USA, and no US President would ever give them the direct public message that essentially "we bombed a mountain for you, now wind your neck in, and behave like we just told Iran to".
The member you are responding to has made the point that either Netanyahu or Israel as a whole, or both, have never been in this position in anyone's living memory.
I think the point is completely valid and warrants exploration. You are deflecting from that by confirming what is already well known - that Trump agreed to a bombing run on behalf of Tel Aviv.
Regarding the matter being discussed, I genuinely now feel that Trump feels a need to answer his core MAGA critics (Bannon etc) by holding back on any further blind support for Israel at this stage. I could be wrong, but that seems the direction of flow.
Iran should take full advantage of this chink in the armour of the USA-Israel alliance.
Well, the issue here is, this does not really matter how it goes between Iran and Israel.
That ship has sailed, and that is something we, the Americans, don't want to do, and he did it anyway. you can say, "oh, he is now just as disciplined to Nethanyahu as Iran". Sure, if Trump has a good stock at home, there is going to be some political wiggle room for him to maneuver around. Still, he is not, by all accounts he is either going to be the lowest approval rating president or already is in the lowest. At the same time, for him, it didn't matter, for the GOP, tho, they are looking at a wipeout in next year's mid-term, if not because of this, then it will be because of the economy.
On the other hand, what do you think Trump would do? He gone all gun-ho and bomb the crap out of Iran, first of all, setting aside whether or not Iran can swallow it and let it go, would that be the end of it? I mean there are only 2 ways to go, either going back to diplomacy, which wasn't tried before at all, or keep escalating, I don't know if you heard of people call him TACO, that's already sticking, so if he went back after going all gun-ho, there are going to be reprecussion with his base, because it will look like he chicken out again, if he continue support the Israel, this will no doubt drag us into another war we do not want, now, is this Trump playing Netanyahu? Or Netanyahu playing Trump? I will let you decide.
But if you ask me whether or not he care about either Iran or Israel, he probably don't, he is just doing this because he can, on the other hand, never underestimate AIPAC pull in the US. Even if he is saying no out in the public, that may not mean no, I mean, we went from May last year when biden withhold those GBU for Israel in fear they will be used in Gaza, to we actively play a part of Israeli ploy in Iran this June, now can you really call that a progress if Trump slap around Netanyahu a bit? Well, that's my point.
