Nobody gives their top tier weaponry to anyone let alone pakistan and you wont be getting top of the line quipment for free. And j20 is top tier j10 is 4th gen j31 is less advance export variant 5th gen.
If you were getting j20 then it would have been top tier common sense.

J-20 is functionally a different aircraft than the J-31---where J-31 is the aircraft the comes closer to meet the needs of the Paf.

Both these aircrafts are maturing at a very fast pace---.

There was a time when the " so called critics " were calling out the J-20 an aircraft with an inferior engines---.

The fools did not comprehend that that it is not only the engine---there are a million and one other things that an aircraft has too perfect along with its pilot to be able and capable---.

The chinese had done both---made its pilots fighting capable---made the weapons and electronic package integrated and operational---.

INdia is already planning for chinese 5th gen jets so pakistan getting one wont make any major difference to indias future plans but if pakistan got one in this decade then india wilĺ need to fast track the fth gen plans .
Most notably india is going for home made 5th gen jet but that is atleast 12 yrs away from now minimum so most likely india will be behind pakistan if j31 arrives before 2035.
ONly viable solution is buying from a foreign vendor either russia, france , usa or maybe south korea. Russian su57 can be bought if chinese 5th gen arrives as both can have similar technological level.
f35 is not possible as india does not trust Usa for such an important purchase that too against americas old ally pakistan.
Most likely scenario will be more upgraded rafale from france.
And in very rare case india can also move to south korea for assembly of kf31 if the cost is reasonable.
PAkistan getting 5th gen wont give a decisive edge to pakistan but definetely put pressure on iaf to act faster.
And it is given at some point chinese will definetely deliver most of the chinese second tier equipments to pakistan to contain india. And pakistan will accept anything for free.

Its true corrupt indian govt and indian air force had royally fuked us and they are not even learning from their mistakes now.
Even if hal , ada and drdo would have privatised or mota danda was used for these lazy govt workers india would have made a 5th gen by now.

Just like the PAF waited for the J-10 to mature until it met the PAF’s requirements, Indeed the PAF really should wait till the J-31/35 meets performance requirements to be worth acquiring.

There were alternatives to the J10 in the 2000's. The Blk 52+ and also the early Thunders weren't too far behind J10A performance specs.
There is the square root of f*** all else as far as 5G fighters are concerned and Ukraine has made it very clear that only 4.5++ and 5G can hope to survive.
I expect F31 squadrons to start entering service soon.

The Chief of Air Staff of the Pakistan Air Force, Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar today at a ceremony at the Central Air Command AOR confirmed the Pakistan Air Force’s plans to procure the Shenyang J-31 multirole stealth fighter jet from China. The CAS said that “the foundation for acquiring the J-31 Stealth Fighter aircraft has already been laid which is all set to become part of the PAF's fleet in the near future”.

J-31/35 makes sense for Pakistan as sharing same powerplant with JF-17. However news that Pakistan is a partner in Kaan could indicate either Pakistan is playing hard ball with both or PAF will opt for a heavily customized airframe combining sub systems from both. Buying x2 5th gen aircraft doesnt make sense.

Would have hoped Azm would have been a clean design similar to F-23 though but personally in favor of the J-31/35 over Kaan as Chinese have more experience in aircraft development.

I wouldn't be surprised if PAF went for both the Turkish and Chinese option.

Most probably with WS-13 but not WS-10 with 2 high thrust engines j31/J35 is become heavy weight jet but J35/J-31 is not heavy weight jet but medium weight jet

now i know where everyone was, since forum was so desolated, you guys are busy here...

to me it seems a little early to announce this procurement. do we have some news from India of any procurement plan of fifth gen aircraft off the shelf?

anyhow we will be having two procurement running side by side including J-10C and J-35.

announcement itself explain a bit about this program. logically, it seems maturity level is achieved to the satisfaction of PAF including engine (WS-19 along with stealth characteristics, avionics, otherwise this is huge announcement.

it also begs the question for how long were PAF personnel been involved in evaluation with this program ? we may have answers soon as the cat is out of the bag now.

i think induction is still 5-7 years away although PAF would be primary customer.

Mulla ji as per my limited knowledge IAF already is working with ADA/DRDO on it for at least two decades and AMCA is coming out earlier than LCA MK2 for starters

and to counter chinese stealth already new genration radars both ground based and AWACS and fighter based are upgraded

thirdly India had a deal with russia for FGFA but it dint work out then but many things have changed in last three years and today niether russia nor USA is stopping any such transfers to india cause both have common enemy which is main enemy of india too se i short chances are we might get a couple of squads of either F35 Lightning II or maybe the upgraded/MKIsed russian T50s /FGFAs before AMCA is made oprational

Latest prototype is flying with WS-10 or WS-13 engine not RD 93. Russian engine is not there in J-31 anymore.

Surely not the WS-10 which is simply too wide and heavy. Allegedly it uses an uprated WS-13 called WS-21.
