PA Options against Indian Armour - ATGMs on MANPADS & Attack Gunship Helicopter - News & Discussions

Isn't the advantage of artillery is that it can be deployed against both China and Pakistan ?
Yes and no.
We are essentially dealing with three categories, maybe four.

One, towed 155 mm howitzers. Suitable for the flat. Sometimes, Not always, suitable for the high plateau.
Two, self propelled 155 mm howitzers. Suitable for the flat, and for most of the high plateau.
More.

Three, ultra light (M 777 BAE) howitzers, heli -portable, meant for the high plateau, but obviously usable In the plains as well.
Four, the ubiquitous 105 mm field guns, that have recently been fitted on to 4WD vehicles with great success.
Of these, the first and third are most suited for the high plateau, although they can be readily tiffin the plains. The self propelled guns are awkward customers on mountain paths, the 105S have for reasons of logistics and uniformity of supplies steadily lost their place in the line up.
Hope that is useful.

Perhaps a relatively modest survivability upgrade package for the Al-Zarrar tanks can help. The solution will have to be an “all of the above” kind of solution of multiple things, but defiantly making sure our current tanks can survive enemy blows and be able to fight back will be crucial.

Was that an open question or a rhetorical one?

March 2024 : In a major capability boost, the Indian Army on Friday raised its first Apache attack helicopter squadron in the desert sector in Jodhpur near the Pakistan front.

The squadron was raised today in Jodhpur in the presence of Director General Indian Army Aviation Lt Gen Ajay Suri and officials from the original manufacturer Boeing along with other senior officials, Indian Army Officials told ANI.

An additional six AH-64E Apache attack helicopters have been expected to join the Indian Armed Forces in May, bringing the total numbers to 28.

The Indian Army has established its inaugural Apache AH-64E attack helicopter squadron at Nagtalao Army Base. The Boeing-made helicopters will be operated by the 451st Army Aviation Squadron (AH), with the initial batch scheduled to arrive in May.

The Indian Army Apache helicopters would camouflage desert colours and the first batch of choppers would arrive and join the fleet by May this year, they said.

India has already been operating 22 AH-64Es. The first attack platform for the Indian Air Force entered the production line at Boeing’s Mesa facility in the US in April 2018. The order for the six additional platforms for the Indian Army was sealed in 2017.
Many countries operate the Apache, with the E model being the US Army’s attack helicopter fleet’s backbone.

According to a January 2022 news release, the US Army considered the AH-64E Version 6 helicopters to be the final iteration of the platform, but Boeing announced last October the successful maiden flight of the latest version of the AH-64E, known as Version 6.5 (V6.5).

Yes. Hugely so. Using the classic Russian shock troops concept almost undisturbed, with only a significant addition of air cavalry, including helicopter gunships, to the classic composition.

And with a variation that does not get mentioned much but might be a game-changer.
