JF-17 - Updates, News & Discussion

Hi,

BLK 3 is begining to be a surprise to many an air force and that has increased their interest in this aircraft---but this makes the US work harder to not allow the sale of this aircraft to the nations in the arena of its influence---.

It would be a great feat for china /kamra to make a sale of this aircraft.

Bottomline---this aircraft is amongst the most advanced fighter aircraft in its 4.5 gen category---.

Media reports Prospects for 08 x JF-17C Export Sale with both Chinese as well as Higher Thrust Russian Power plant options

" ... Clear indicators of budget constraints hitting in and some revisions to ASR.

Blocks being capped at 50each, production shift to upgrade block-IIs.

And what is really most important is the additional 30 minutes on station due to higher efficiency achieved with the RD-93MA.

I wonder what the weight of the Block III is ( did it increase for all the new equipment, if so, by how much ) and how that affects the T/W ratio ?

We have not seen the Block III's turn-and-burn yet - most likely the Block IIIs are being "extra-looked after" as they are a very valuable asset with their AESA radars etc.

Offset by adding composites but it did go up - the extra thrust from the engine makes up for it and yes they are very potent assets.

Are there any more details on the recent exercise with the F-15s, F-16s. Not sure if any Rafales were present as well?

Hi,

And we have yet to see the turn and burn rate of the F-22 or the F-35's so far.

Hello good people

What % of the Jeff is manufactured locally? (Not just assembled). Also, is there any discussion on how working on this aircraft improved local technical and manufacturing chops?

58%. Front fuselage, wings, vertical and horizontal tail.

No Rafales - and the general results are kept hush.
All forces did well and it was a learning moment for everyone.

yes we have in countless public displays and testimonials from operational pilots and they are very good.
Especially in the true arena of today’s combat with BVR, LO and Sensor fusion they are still unmatched as complimentary systems.

I'm surprised they got the RD-93MA. I wonder if the 30-unit cap on the Block-III had something to do with the RD-93MA? Perhaps Klimov delivered a batch pre-CAATSA, but the PAF couldn't order more due to US pressure? So, in effect, future JF-17s will basically use a Chinese powerplant?
